For the sweet love of all that is good and holy!

Been busy at work these last few days and have had zero energy. Got the engine on the stand and am off tomorrow so hopefully will start putting it together. Got a little disappointing email that the transmission swap kit won't ship for like 3 weeks. Guess it doesn't totally matter since I don't have a manifold or downpipe yet. Still waiting for my upgraded rear axles to for the getrag diff.More shit showed up in the mail so guess I can show you all that.

13in SPAL fan with the mounting brackets. The brackets are nice. Should be able to make them work.

KMiata recommends replacing the detent pins on the ZF transmission so a known centering issue is resolved so ordered those. Also got the tool kit to make that an easier job. Also picked up a couple other parts to refresh the transmission while its off the car. Picked up a vacuum block too just to see if I can keep the various connections in the bay clean.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...29858e3549.jpg

Also picked up a 4 port boost solenoid. A dual port waste gate is on order so Ill see if I can make this all work lol. Also got a mounting bracket to mount it to the turbo which seems to work pretty well.

Im looking forward to the essential parts showing up so I can get all this stuff in the car. I guess overall its not the end of the world that things are trickling in. Im still learning as Im putting this all together so I think it takes 10 times longer than anyone here. I have to stop and read, stop more, read more....rinse and repeat. I just want this thread to be more about putting this shit together instead of a shopping list.

much baller parts.

One small comment, seems you painted the mating surface for the water pump and gasket, keep an eye out for leaks around waterpump.

Thanks for noting that. Is this something that will for sure be a problem or can I leave it? The engine shop painted it for me.

18psi 08-29-2017 10:15 PM

it can be a problem. definitely not for sure

loving all the parts. never seen a mac valve mounted to the efr like that, pretty neat.
though I probably wouldn't mount it there (if for no other reason than looks lol)

karter74 08-29-2017 10:33 PM

Have a link to where you picked up the SPAL fan and brackets?

Amazon is your friend

Might want to rubber mount the solenoid valve. I had one rigidly mounted in my turbo M3 and it sounded like lifter tick. They can be fairly loud when they are cycling

sub'd for reading material

Subscribed, this going to be a really nice build.

Glad to see you have the tools for the detent pins already. Yeah, sorry we had a couple small delays on the trans parts, but we're getting close. Once you have everything in hand I think you'll be very pleased with the end result.

Quality takes time...nothing wrong with that. Most certainly nothing to be sorry about. Looking forward to it. As stated reality is Im slow since this is my first time, so even if the parts showed up tomorrow it wouldn't matter since the the engine isn't together yet. Hopefully Im able put your product to good use.

Went out to drill the oil pan and found the machine shop didn't give me back the bolts for the pan and noted I don't have the right size drill bit...kind of annoying. Also got the steering rack depowered and attached. Looks ok I guess...can't wait to see how fucked up the alignment is and how much I have to change shit. Wont lie...the steering is stiff as shit. The rack was already sorta depowered -- I just put the plugs in the rack. I torqued all the front suspension pieces to spec so not totally sure if this is what is supposed to feel like or what. When I go over to Shandelle's at some point I guess Ill just have to see...but right now with the car in the air and no wheels it feels awfully tight lol. Also got some other new things in the mail.

Ive really been happy with the quality of 949 racing's stuff and this is no different. The pieces are top notch. Just a single hose sent so I may have to do some modifications to that for aesthetic reasons.

I got FM silicone intercooler piping as I saw in another build that they work with the TSE kit. I really like them. The quality is top notch. A risk i suppose but I think I can make them work. Also got a FM lower radiator hose.

Scaxx 08-31-2017 04:22 AM

The depowered rack took me a little getting used to but for me it was totally worth it. I'm on 245 vr1s and I did have to parallel park it one time which sucked but other than that it's been great. Feedback and feeling on track was totally worth it. I was on track in our lemons car this weekend with the power steering still in (fucking germans and their hydroboost bullshit) and the feedback was absolutely horrendous.

But yeah, it did take a little getting used to

sixshooter 08-31-2017 07:22 AM

Something is wrong. With the wheels off the ground my de powered steering can be spun like a top with one finger. Did you disassemble the rack at some point? I didn't.

Padlock 08-31-2017 07:58 AM

During reassembly, did you overtighten that "one bolt I don't have a good name for" that puts pressure on the rack against the pinion? that could make steering effort more difficult

I can spin my steering wheel easily with a finger when lifted off the ground.

concealer404 08-31-2017 09:42 AM

And did you actually depower it? Or just remove the the lines and cap it?

TonyMontana 08-31-2017 11:58 AM

So I just drained the fluid and put on the plugs. Sixshooter said his worked fine like this so I didn't go crazy with it. It seems fine when the tie rods are not attached but when I attached them it was balls stiff. Both spindles are stiff as shit too when I rotated them by hand before I ever put on the steering rack. I mean I used the factory torque specs on all bolts attaching the ball joints to the spindle but maybe I fucked it up and made them too tight. Its not super clear to me...

sixshooter 08-31-2017 02:24 PM

I didn't plug the holes. I put a hose between the two holes. The air has to be able to get out of it on one side and into it on the other side.

Sounds like you made an air compressor.

Figures...

What two holes are you referring to? I plugged 4 holes total...two on the body of the steering rack and two on the part where the shaft plugs in.
