dat porsche

I feel stupid even saying this but I might just refresh a 1.6. I should be able to find one on the uber cheap. Maybe throw in beefier rods and that is it. This way I can keep the car mostly the same and just swap in the new engine in a day.

18psi 07-14-2013 08:23 PM

so you drove all the way to Joe's house and all that for nothing?

stop going full retard

Well either way a build wouldn't be happening, 1.8 or 1.6, until spring so I have time to go full retard and back a few times.

Fireindc 07-14-2013 08:56 PM

I vote you run a stock 1.6 forever and sell the manly built motor parts to me.

FRT_Fun 07-14-2013 09:19 PM

We shall see how I feel after I've had time to get used to the power. I think I will be more than satisfied. I'm just a lowly mortal, I don't need 300whp to be happy. But I don't want to jump the gun. Until then I still have plenty to do with the car as it sits now.

18psi 07-14-2013 09:26 PM

yeah I said that a bunch of times

FRT_Fun 07-15-2013 05:58 PM

This car is fcking great. It drives so good. fuck all yallllllllllllllllllllllll 1.6 for lyfe

Braineack 07-16-2013 07:45 AM

I've never heard anyone with a greddy kit say that before. What were your previous setups?

FRT_Fun 07-16-2013 09:58 AM

2 FM II kits.

I like mine.

But let's be fair, neither of these cars are "really" Greddy's. Only Greddy parts used are the manifold (with stress relief cuts) and TD04. Other than that, they are proper builds with good engine management, custom intake and exhaust.

Fireindc 07-16-2013 12:45 PM

Shit, i loved my greddy. I love my 1.8 more, but the greddy treated me well.

True. There's not much Greddy left. Good setup to learn on... you "get to" do everything twice or more. ;)

Disclaimer: I haven't set up my laptop yet, so no logs.

Okay guys I have a few questions. Driving the car today I noticed a pretty strong fuel smell, also seem to feel a loss in power, and from what I can tell slow-er spool. Upon further inspection the fuel smell seems to be most potent near the rear of the engine. I see no visible leaks.

The idle is at about 1400rpm at -17hg to -18hg vacuum. The fuel pressure at idle is ~40psi.

I also hear what I think may be a vacuum leak. But as this set up is new to me it could just be normal. But there is a slight hissing sound near the back of the engine as well. It's hard to tell if it's normal or not.

Am I crazy? I started going over the vac lines to check for leaks but I don't see anything obvious. A few of the vac lines were kinda loose, easy to slip on and off so I'll go through and tighten everything up.

The vacuum seems low to me, I thought I remembered pulling somewhere around -20hg at idle normally.

Finally boost seems to build slower than normal, although I only have a few days worth of experience on the car so who knows.

Anyways I'm installing TS on mah laptop and then I will go log some shit or whatever. I feel like a noob all over again, I need to get back into this shit. :loser:

There is a large vacuum cap on the intake manifold at the back of the engine. Tough to get to and see, so look hard. I think it is used when the B6 is on a FWD car, or maybe it's used in the automatic model, not sure.

In my build, I pulled the nipple, tapped the hole and put in a brass pipe thread plug. No more leaks, ever. Pretty sure there is a pix of this near the end of my build thread for reference.

Sorry, no picture of this nipple in the build thread.

Look at the back of the IM in the area circled below:

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out!

Seems like at least the throttle plate sticks a bit. If I push it closed it moves about 1/8" That may explain the slightly high vacuum at idle.

I owe you man. It was uncapped. Might have come off during one of my pulls yesterday -.-

Uggghhh. So I capped it (here is a picture of it I snapped (from a different manifold) of the nipple for anyone wondering.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1374100148

But now the car almost doesn't start. Idles like balls, and dies if I let off the throttle after accelerating. Video to come...

And my laptop is being a total bitch so I can't get TS running yet
