I'm considering finishing the new motor for Miata, since I already have everything besides gaskets...

FR-S is a little slow on acceleration but it has 200whp potential with header, exhaust (mine has TRD catback), intake, intake manifold spacer, and tune. Either way, it handles great, even on shitty 215 stock tires.

I got a BRZ a few months ago. So far the plan to mod the miata not the BRZ is working. The BRZ is fantastic (and fantasticly slow) in stock form. I would rather mod my track/ weekend toy for less money.

False alarm. Going to keep this thing around for a while . It's getting all the bushings replaced right now and off to corner balancing after that. Also going to make front splitter and install Elise diffuser sometime next month.

Should I replace my 8/6 springs with 10/7 springs? I'm going to run 245 Hoosiers on 10" wide wheels.

So far I've got a front lip that covers the "fangs", ball shift **** (I really didn't like the stitches), Cusco throttle pedal, and OFT. The only thing I want to change are brakes. I've seen a thread on ft86club.com about adapting 300ZX 6lbs calipers with bigger rotors for like $600 total.

Not to go to off subject, but more BRZ talk:

Got a flat in the miata on my way to my HPDE Thursday, so I got towed home and took the BRZ. Long story short, it was fantastic but the brake fade was scary. This was at Thompson Motor Speedway, a new 1.7 mile track in CT. It is a very slow, tight course except for the main straight. I was struggling to have reliable brakes lap after lap coming from 107 MPH (top of 4th) down to second gear. I will be at least upgrading pads and fluid in the near future.

As far as the prius tires... they screamed the whole time. They offer quite a bit of understeer but the car is controlable and it's very easy to play with it and get the *** end out a little. I had a blast, but it doesn't even come close to as much fun as my turboed miata with great tires/brakes/suspension. For the track, I will take 15k into a 5k miata any day over a showroom stock 20k car. But it sure was nice to have AC/PS/Nav/Cruise/XM on my way home from the track :-D

So the club race guys say turns 3-10 are an auto-x and 11-2 are a road course. Fair?

A slight exaggeration, but close. Pretty much as soon as you exit the nascar track you are on a fun track all the way up until that stupid hairpin (turn 4?) Then it stays meh for the rest of the course. Slow. 60 MPH avg speed. 110 on the straight in my BRZ. I wasn't in love but its twice the track time as lime rock for half the money. It is the same drive to get there for me too.

Maybe next year when I have the wrx functional again I'll have to shoot down for a day. Or if that club considered a bolted in OEM hard top to be a closed top car I would consider running dad's miata after I buy a hard top. I mean its only a nice 20 minute jaunt from my apartment, which means its like an hour an a half tow from where my real race car is.

most clubs consider an OEM hard top enough. I ran with Loose Nut Motorsports. They are very laid back.

Sorry UrbanSoot. Enough thread crapping

I don't mind thread crapping

Front control arms are almost done, just need to install new outer tie rods. Rears next and then splitter and diffuser.

Flashed FR-S with OFT "stage 1" v2.01 map. Car runs smoooooth. Highly recommend!

Going to do a track day at Mazfest on Saturday!
  • Removed all of carpet, passenger air bag, and few other things here and there. A/C stays.
  • Got alignment and corner balancing done. 2332 lbs with me in the car. Not a bad start. 4.5 caster, -3 front camber, -2.6 rear camber, 0 toe all around. Had to go a tad lower than 4.5" to get all 3 degrees up front, rear is ok.
  • Installed Megasquirt and LC-2. It's idling and revs but I haven't driven it yet. Got a misfire (was there before MS3, probably coils) and a vacuum leak to deal with :(
  • About to install a good low mileage NB 5 speed this week. Will install it with FM 10 lbs flywheel and FM clutch kit.
  • Spoke to Moti about aero but ran out of time before the track event. Soon.
