Because of how violent the car is, I am going to run wastegate pressure and do some vvt things. Hopefully I don't have to spend all day (and $texas) on the dyno next week. The weird thing is, FM, pdexta, etc all made significantly more power with this turbo on less boost. Unless I have a restriction in airflow somewhere, I am not sure where I am losing ~80 whp.

How's your timing map compared to everyone else. It's not just about boost!
I believe pdexta has posted his timing maps on his dyno threads. Would be a nice place to just compare to see how yours compares. It'll help you see if the loss you have is expected-ish or not.

When you say violent, do you mean how hard the boost hits?

Fairly conservative in mid range, but not so much up top. I am gonna just go for broke and slap in a few more degrees and see what happens. I pulled pdexta's map from his 330 whp dyno day and slammed it in my ms3 minus a degree. We shall see what happens. Gonna go get gas.

Violent meaning it spins rs4's in 3rd.

looking at that vvt target map, and assuming the car actually follows the map well (this part is very important), you're about 90-95% there with the vvt and won't see huge gains with more advance

Errr. He's got a 94 block AFAIK and he's running E85. If you're on the NB2 stock block I'd pull some more timing because he has 9:1 compression and you're at about 10:1 with the NB2. If his map is very aggressive then you're possibly going to be past MBT. I've looked at his threads quite a lot and from what I remember, he used a few maps. Make sure you pick the one that gave him the most power and dial things back on that.

Good luck. Remember that you can always add in what you take out in terms of timing for a trial run! Save the map and dial it back a bunch and then add things back based on what you see. NB2 has a knock sensor. Use it!

It follows really close to requested, and has all new seals so I am guessing I am good there. I have been logging it. I couldn't make more power up top with less cam advance than 3* above 4500 so that is where I left it. I am guessing my untouched 150k mile head may have valves hanging open a little from boost or I have found a weird limit to the square top (doubt it).

I have a forged 8.4:1 bottom end and huge sewer pipe intake/exhaust. 93 pump gas.

I used his timing map from his low 300s days on pump to model mine. I am in the 15-16s in mid range and 19* at 7500 at 250 kpa. I haven't seen knock but I am not making any more power with more in my VD graphs. I am guessing I have a mechanical restriction somewhere, anyone heard of a valve job robbing 80 whp?

looks reasonable for built engine on pump gas. don't think it will like too much more timing
does the car start good? cause that doesn't look like it will start/fire good

I've posted this elsewhere before, but this is what braineack's basemap looked like. I think he's running more timing in a few places than you are and this was for my NB1 afaik.

I just realized that my current timing map is actually more conservative than his and I'm still pulling timing in places.

please stop posting that plot everywhere. it's useless. scott just made it "close enough" for a base map, and it should not be used as any sort of standard or control.

once someone batch-tests like a dozen bp's with det cans on all sorts of fuels many times over, then those maps would probably be worth something.

even the DIYauto base map spark plots are useless

There are a lot of things I don't like about that timing map.

It's just one guy's idea of where to start. And there's nothing wrong with that at all, except when someone starts copy/pasta it all over the forum and after a while people are using it like some sort of standard or control and how much "off" theirs is, which is seriously counter productive.
Like calculating specifics and starting with a random guess numbers.

What does a Fisher Price My First Bolt On Turbo Kit NB1 map have to do with a ***** of Steel low compression built motor 2871R setup?

Meh, he's running a map from someone else on the forum and no one bats an eye lol.

My point was that he has a knock sensor and that he should use it. To log things and see whats going on. Det cans are that much better.

In B4 soth is in talking about how no one should listen to ridetheclit...

Dewd! He said please, careful who you annoy here. The picture isn't even a screenshot, it's a crappy phone pic of your screen. I don't even care anymore, but I think 18 and I take turns caring once in awhile.

Sorry for bugging.your thread.

That wasn't my point. If you wanna just dump in someone's map and cross your fingers I'm fine with it, as long as you basically admit/state that.
My only gripe was with you posting this base map in at least a couple threads now saying "yours is off from this one" and stuff. Like that one is the standard of some sort.

That was my only issue.

But yeah if I were tuning this car, I'd proceed with knock sensing abilities past the map he has now. (though could defininely run more spark out of boost)
