What if it gets worse? A lot worse?

I think I'd fix whatever is causing this huge amount of leakage first, and probably check everything else on the head while I was at it.

I'd agree with pat. Except Laguna is tomorrow...

If it gets worse the smoke will be obvious. Remember how it doesn't leak while driving?

Agreed, I've never seen a new head leak that bad on ALL of the valve stem seals. Something screwy is going on. I'd probably check to see if you have valve stem seals installed. If you do, see if they're snapped in place. If they are, pull the valves and check for any play between the valve and the guide. You should find the problem in one of these steps.

I won't lie, I would be scared of a big oil leak right next to my exhaust system catching on fire. Maybe that's unlikely, but for me I got way too much time/money in my car to risk a bit known oil leak next to the hottest parts on the car. Just not worth it to me. If Laguna is tomorrow then yank the head in the morning and start going through it, figure out what was wrong, and try to fix it.

Maybe swap a spare known-good head if one of you gentlemen is anywhere close to him and can hook a brother up.

You can do seals with the head on. Rope trick, as 18psi stated works great. You can have the whole thing done in one afternoon.

You can also try this kind of kit. This is the tool I used when I had to replace all the valve stem seals in an old car of mine like I mentioned earlier. It worked great for me.

I used compressed air and a "head-on/on-block" valve tool. I was skeptical at first. Pleasantly surprised in the end. Far easier to use than I ever imagined. I highly recommend a valve seal removal tool if you decide to pull and reseat the seals, or install new seals.

I don't know how much the leaking has increased, if at all, but if it is the same as before then the car should have no problem doing a track session or two. If it did get much worse, then you'll need to address it before MRLS

Keep in mind how much driving it took to get it to where it's at now.

(but again, that's assuming it didn't get start leaking faster)

I had my Supertechs installed by my trusted local mechanic who used the rope trick and the little magnetic tool you hit with a hammer to remove keepers. It was ridiculously quick for him.

I'm going to reassemble the car today and drive it around some, see what happens. I also need to pop the valve cover and check the shims as well, because its been a while and it'll give me more data to work from. This will give me a chance to make sure there are actually seals in the head. Plus alignment. I always manage to forget to do that until the last minute :facepalm:

Its not enough oil that anything is going to burst into flames. Its going to make a little smoke and smell bad,and make my perfectly clean block and oil pan even more gross, but I doubt anything is going to explode. I'd have to check for an exact number, but I've got over 2500 miles on it at this point. If it was going to do something I'd imagine it would have done it by now. I just need to keep an eye on it and make sure its not getting worse. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, it happens all the time.

If I choose not to run or don't run all my sessions Sat/Sun I'm not going to cry about it. Its just a track day.

Just under 40 minutes to reinstall the turbo, manifold and all the associated plumbing. Not bad. Now to pull the valve cover and check the shims and see if I can see valve stem seals. Part of me hopes they are not there.

I also installed the Denso ik 22 spark plugs and if someone spoon feeds me the dwell settings for Toyota cops I'll get those installed as well. :party:

I figured I should mention that there are valve stem seals behind the springs. They appear to have light blue plastic innards, maybe supertech? Anyone know what color the supertech intake and exhaust seals are supposed to be?

yep intakes are blue and exhaust is brown, or vice versa can't remember

Did I mention I replaced the exhaust manifold gasket? I replaced the exhaust manifold gasket. Dripping a lot less, smoking a lot more. /sigh

Also, now my downpipe is touching my steering shaft :vash:

KD tools tool wont work on supertech springs. KD tools does work somewhat ok at getting the retainers out though. oh and there's a metric version of the KD tools on, thats the one you want. The lever arm does work. I learned these things the hard way.

This car will be silly fast once I learn how to drive.

Its a fairly odd thing to be able to steer the car through a corner with the throttle :party:
