This is how a dsm'er would build a miata.

I have friends in the DSM community who are super offended at this.

Note to self: build motor so I can have the high-pitched whistle of the turbo instead of a lame whoosh and 200whp.

I know at least one DSMer who would be impressed with the high-end parts used in this project. Seriously. He used PVC for charge pipes and duct tape over fernco couplers. I think some internal parts of his engine were held together with JBWeld. He also JB Welded a tooth together... in his mouth. Keep up the good work, Tech.

Don't drifters usually scuff up the rear bumper?

FTFY and yes.

On a more serious note, the more carefully I look over his car...the closer I look at the little details, the worse it continues to get. This has to be some kind of first for the MT community. I almost want to accuse Tech of intentionally trolling us with his car. It's like he went in with the intent of building a car to **** with us, not a serious build. Whether it's a big thing like no filter on his valve cover, or some minor thing like the dishrag heatshield, it's like he went through everything in there with the sole intent of trolling the **** out of us.

I wouldn't touch cheap pvc for charge pipes, unless it was for mock up and test phase only, otherwise not a long lasting or reliable material in boosted engine bay with pressure and heat.

lame woosh
Don't run exhaust on the turbo and less intake piping infront of the turbo will get you that. Drives me nutty on the road though.

What exactly is wrong with a proper 50:50 weight balance..?

When I re-read your list - I think you bought the wrong car... go buy a car with better everything...!

IIRC he is/was having trouble with rear traction, and talked about going to a rear-mounted turbo or actually moving the engine back to increase his rear weight distribution.

I think a set of coilovers will probably do a lot more than either one of those, but that's just me.

I only break my tires loose if I gun the throttle and feather the clutch.

Because a rear bias is faster, just like a slightly loose car is faster than a perfectly neutral car. Even defending him I'll still call him and idiot though. If you wanted a small 2 seat, light cheap car with a rear weight bias you should have bought an mr2.

Also there are several million adjustments you can make to increase rear traction upon exit of a corner before you get to "rear mounted turbo" and "mount the engine further back".

takes testing and time to get what you want.

Don't worry I have more ideas as well for adding more weight to the rear.
