Project: Ultimate DIY High MPG Commuter
#61
I am going to try and use an old FD Trust muffler that my FD came with... It fits just about perfect... but it's super old and sounds like there is a bunch of acorns rolling around inside.
My exhaust system will be 3" all the way out with V-bands and consist of a Down pipe --> Mid pipe(ends right before diff) ---> Exit
The mid pipe will be straight all the way back so that I can easily add any other thing in the future (resonator/cutout w/e). Then basically a little pig-tail twirly exit with a muffler.
Any experience with a Jones?
I am noob at muffler brands. I've only ever heard of Magnaflow, Monsterflow, and Flowmaster. Haha

Ended up going with a Jones muffler from Summit. I had a 3" turn down I bought from autozone probably 5 years ago... so I made some pie cuts and turned it out 90*.
I was able to stick to the exhaust being a 3 piece like I wanted to make.
The middle section is completely straight so adding in a flex piece or resonator at some point is an easy task.
Ground clearance... tucked under frame rails.
Made the final piece today. The exit. Hangars are always a pain for me to eyeball just right, but I was able to do it perfectly this time.
This pic makes it look not centered, but it's just the angle of the camera.
So after starting it up, I can REALLY hear the exhaust leak in the engine bay now. Unfortunately it looks to be cylinder 1 manifold flange to the head. I am slowly tightening down the nuts to hopefully seal it up, but I worry I am going to shear a stud.
****!
The last thing I want to do is take off the entire exhaust manifold again... If I do that, I might as well make a non-log style manifold and start over.
All I want to do is start tuning with the MS3 and driving

Haven't been updating this much, but plenty of work done.
My problem was that the timing gears were both off by about 1-2 teeth somehow. Now it runs good.
I have been tuning the fuel maps and idle mostly and sorting things out. I hope to take it to the autox this weekend, but damn the tires and suspension are absolutely terrible.
The car pulls surprisingly strong for only ~7psi, I am working on tuning the EBC now to run more boost with the flick of a switch.
I hope to post some datalogs and my map tonight for review.
