Great that you are enjoying the fruits of your labors.

What FW did you end up with? Did you ever find out why some gave funny issues?

Why no break back? V-Maxx?

thumpetto007 07-09-2017 01:50 PM

I really like your car. Clean simple style.

92dx 07-09-2017 02:36 PM

What turbo is the new one you are running? Link to where you purchased it please?

Is the bigger turbo working much better now that you have adjusted the wastegate?

I got my car weighed on scales. 2350 pounds

2001 se with lightweight rims, tires, battery, no spare, dynapro radials, p/s delete.

i am losing track of what car is whos on this site, hope that helps you. Weight in the vd makes a huge difference as well as having a level road.

ridethecliche 07-11-2017 07:25 AM

Any particular reason you stopped at 6k?

I doubt your car is heavier than his NB2 SE. Only car that's heavier than that is the MSM. But it's still a good reference point, at least you can compare to it later

if it's off by even 1mm in any single place, the turbo will spool like poo

I believe the 3 turbo's that I have tried that fit my setup all have the same hotside compressor wheel and housing. At least as far as I have seen. I ordered the turbo that OP is running and it should be to me on Monday. I will pull it apart and measure then.

I am pretty sure Sonofthehill has been using the same exhaust housing on his car and just swapping the CHRA's around.

hmm well then I'm out of idearz

maybe the tolerances are different because china

Hey J! Love the build, looks like you've done a great job on this one. Let me know if you ever drive back through the area!

As for the spool data, you can't compare that directly to someone at sea level. You are over a mile high and your spool is definitely going to be negatively effected by that. Not sure if it makes up for what you are seeing per-say, but something to keep in mind.

sonofthehill 07-13-2017 02:01 AM

A mile high, yes, my barometric pressure is usually above 30.0.

And I was spooling the 2 EFR'S on that AMG tonight :bigtu:

sonofthehill 07-13-2017 02:07 AM

Sorry, the rivet, yes I used it, but I pull my car apart often. The rivet got kinda beat down after a while and I switched to a brass -4AN to NPT piece from ATP which I drilled a little bit.

Yes I run the restrictor, and I broke my motor, not my turbo.

I'm going to guess you still will have cooling issues. I thought you had decided on the supermiata csf crossflow. There are only two good radiators for the miata, and the other one is track$peed.

thumpetto007 07-16-2017 07:29 PM

They market it as their own product, (if you are up for a laugh, give Bill at Miata Roadster a call, and literally just say "949", dude goes off!) but the "supermiata" crossflow radiator is a CSF product. Has CSF all over it. Just fyi. I was irritated when I first unboxed it. Not like it matters. I dunno, i'm also bored.

shuiend 07-16-2017 08:18 PM

I run $105-$110 all aluminum ebay radiators or Trackspeed Engineering radiators in all my cars. It is one extreme of the other for me. Either buy the cheapest bang for the buck, or shell out and buy the best of the best.

You don't like 949. We get it.

Have you considered that CSF makes the 949 radiator to a specific set of specs for them? The same company can make 2 different radiators you know...

He basically changes his mind every week. He literally has a love/hate relationship with every single vendor about every single part he's ever owned.
Some of the issues are legit, some are not.

Just ignore it and move on.

Probably shouldn't use a wire wheel on aluminum surfaces. Also, don't get information from rhoid's thread, even though you got it correct when he can't.

What are you going to do about the boost leak at the BOV? I may have to figure something out for mine as well.

I did it right though!

Shockingly, my ebc started working right after that. Who would have thought...

Of course we don't actually manufacture radiators in our shop in Lake Forest. The Crossflow was however, designed entirely in house by myself and John our engineer. A few iterations, lots of cad drawings. We furnished those completed CAD drawings to CSF to manufacture. CSF had no input into the design other than their 31mm B tube core.

If you need for us or any other vendor to actually manufacture their private label branded items, you may be in for a disappointment. FM does not manufacture turbo manifolds in house. Goodwin does not manufacture exhausts in house. Even V8 Roadsters sub contracts much of their production components.

But yeah, Bill never really got over our early market dominance with the Energy Suspension bushing kits when those were first released 11 years ago. He went to ES first and requested the kit, not exclusive or private label. A few months later I asked ES for a private label kit. They said, "you're in luck, we're already working on it". We got a test set, provided real world test feedback on it. Some of those changes were incorporated into the kit BOM/design. We ordered a mountain of them and became a wholesale distributor for ES. We told the world about the kit and sold a bunch. Bill still feels like we were upstarts that stole "his" product. It was never exclusive. We just did a better job of marketing. For that, we are on his eternal shit list. Sorry about that.

Personally, I have nothing against Bill or his company. It's all just Miata parts. Room for everybody. :shrugs:

thumpetto007 07-24-2017 11:14 PM

Good info.

I just honestly find it hilarious how mad he gets. I purposely always work in "949" into every conversation. :)

I didnt mean my comment as negative, btw.

Sure you did ;)

Stating "they market is as their own product" and "I was irritated" is negative. I get that you have this love/hate thing with us. You like most of our parts and buy a lot, but equally like to take jabs at us whenever possible. I just don't understand why. Regardless, we appreciate your business and want your experience with your Miatas to be fun and positive. If we can contribute to the fun, it makes or day.
