I hadn't realized nobody has documented this before... I guess the cameras get put away when the sparks start flying. Looks good Andrew!

You're right, cutting a perfectly good fender is always a high stress situation, last thing I wanted was to take pictures.

Good weekend at Chuckwalla. It's a hellacious 1000+mile round-trip tow but such a cool track that I make the trek once a year. Car performed well with a couple of hiccups. In the mornings with temps in the mid 70s, the car would run full sessions, but in the full afternoon 95F+ heat, I was only able to do a couple of laps at a time. I'll be re-doing the ducting and adding a fan to the radiator as well to try to bring the summer temps under control. Also going to redo the heat padding in the driver's footwell, I'm not happy with the first solution I tried. Going to shell out for the $150 Koolmat SM setup.

Fast lap from Sunday morning below. Car is a little tight on entry and I miss a shift, so a little more setup time and less sucky driving would put it deep into the 55s. IIRC Emilio was in the 2:01 range in the same session in his S2 on fresh RC-1s.

I've been following the S1 videos on YouTube for the last week and I find them very inspiring. I know you guys are racers and not videographers but I'd love to one day see someone do a spotlight on S1's where their features are filmed and discussed in detail.

Could you see an improvement in grip with the wide tires? So much torque and zero lag, such a nice setup!

Built a tube bumper to replace the OEM support, then cut the OEM bumper beam out of the car to make room for this. First prototype so half the holes don't line up and it's not far enough forward. . About a 4" tall opening at the front which stretches to ~8" at the back. Fully sealed with weather stripping directly to the radiator core, so the air has nowhere else to go. Testing tomorrow at Thunderhill in ~75*F weather, but the real test will be in a few weeks at Spring Mountain.

Also playing with oil cooler location since the new radiator ducting forced me to move it. This was going to be temporary (hence the spaghetti hoses), but I kind of like it here. The "duct" is just a shield to protect the cooler from road spray off the tire, but I can just as easily expand it and pull air from the IC box or directly from the bumper. The other option is to downsize the core to a 19 or 22 row and drop it behind the intercooler. The latter is more repeatable so I am leaning that way.

Where is the oil cooler fed from there, air-wise? I'm trying to plan out where to stick a couple 25 or 34 row ones (because rotary)

Went up to Thunderhill West for a low-key day with one of my friends. Set fast lap of the day and turned some heads. One big mistake on this lap so the car is easily capable of dipping into the 1:21s here. Had fun, ran all 5 sessions, no hiccups to report. The Koolmat kit in the driver's footwell was excellent, those will be added to the site shortly.

Friend brought his bone-stock SS 1LE, down to the Goodyear Eagles. He was lapping in the 1:25s all day, then put his milk-crate of spares back in the trunk and cruised it home. Kind of freaky.



More radiator ducting and a big 13" fan going on this week, then four driver-days at Spring Mountain this weekend.

Are you just running a straight pipe? Or is it resonated? I need my car to pop like yours. Although that is probably in the tune, not exhaust.
