I'm starting to think I needed more of a balance. Definitely feel like a big weight has been taken off my shoulders since I put my two weeks in. It's only been a few days but I feel much more motivated and rested. I got pretty much my entire matlab project done yesterday other than some debugging. I think my constant work/school schedule was just starting to get to me.

Just wait for the post graduate anxiety that comes with having so much free time on your hands...

...and still feeling as though you forgot to turn in an assignment, or that there is another report/test/paper that needs to be done.

 

Yeah I don't have many pictures of it currently haha, not sure why, usually I take a lot of pictures when I work on things, probably because I opened up the harness and it looks really ugly right now.

All I really need for it is a new oil cooler, radiator, a couple custom cables, some AN lines, and some sort of muffler set up. Maybe a couple small other things but not a whole lot. It's a bit of fab, but that's what I enjoy most. The tires on it are old and **** but whatever, less likely to snap the axle and I'll just learn to be more careful with my right foot. Also the purge set up is something that's kind of an investment since I can make money doing side jobs on stainless exhausts that way, I also need it for the miata's exhaust.

 

Hahaha I bet, I get that somewhat during the summer, can't imagine what it'll be like after I'm finally done.

Survived another week of school, one week down one to go. My matlab midterm is next week, thankfully I'll have the entire week to study for it which is good since I had the same teacher for thermo and his midterms were absolutely brutal. Hopefully after that I'll have some time to do stuff. I'm currently just trying to keep my head above water. I'll probably be catching up for about a week or two. Oh and my axles come tomorrow, I'll post a couple pictures when they come in.

 

Got my rear end today! Or at least part of it haha, only the rear end kit came. The axles, driveshaft, and sway mounts didn't come. I'm guessing Shandelle was just gonna send them in two shipments or he didn't have the axles yet or something. Not really worried about it, I know I'll get them eventually. Anyway, here's what I got

 

setting your pinion angle is wayy more important then anyone tells you.
make sure your pinon angle is set up perfect, or you'll fight a mystery vibration.

i went threw 3 sets of wheels before i found out it was a miss aligned pinion.

 

I'll have to be extra careful then, any tips?

 

Measure angle of transmission output, measure angle of pinion. Make sure they are the same.

Very simple.

 

what ever the Output shaft of the trans is at, have the diff set at the negative value. for example, my trans output shaft sits at 2*, so the face of my diff needed to be at -2*. that cured all my vibration issues.

 

I did not know that ^ regarding speed changes.

 

There are a bunch of $200 getrags in local junkyards right now.

 

I learned about this when designing steering shafts. Many systems are non-linear in relation to steering wheel rotation versus front wheel angle. This is why it's desirable to use two u-joints that are clocked 90 degrees to cancel the speed differential out.

 

I knew about getting the angle right from another member at m.net having problems with diff vibrations, never knew how accurate you had to be with it, I guess you just want it as accurate as possible. Also I have thought about buying a used getrag. I know this sounds silly but I only wanted to buy new parts for this build. I may break down and buy a used one but for right now the plan is only new parts (except the trans, since I got that for a grand)

 

Makes sense. A $200 LSD getrag is hard to pass up. I may pick one up for myself.

 

Any tips on getting the angles right, as far as measuring?

 

Magnetic angle finder.

Put it on the ujoint at the trans output.

And then on the u joint at the diff.

I used that one. Or you can spend more.
