No, things have been assumed such as the CAS still being fine, exhaust still being fine, ignition still being fine, wiring to ECU being fine, etc.

In my mind it's like an organ transplant. If you're getting a new heart, the heart should be your primary focus after surgery. Just don't ignore the rest of the body, **** happens.

I am 99% sure I figured out what was wrong. A lot of it is assuming I had things correct that I did not. I went and checked my FSM for the 01 for how the exhaust cam gear goes on the cam. I had it off about 120 degrees. It was the one thing that we did not touch on Sunday. I put it on correctly according to the FSM and will finish putting on the timing belt tomorrow. Hopefully tomorrow night my car starts.

The picture is what I just photochoped out of the FSM. I had the knock pin at the little red mark I drew instead of straight up like its supposed to be.

Damn, I need to get that picture from my FSM for the next time I try to put them back on, very helpful.

Also, MS paint fail.

That one picture is just what saved my but.

And yes I suck at computer graphics, I will design you a network like there is no tomorrow, but ask me to crop a picture and I will fail every time.

I did the bottom end, I will take no and assign all credit to the head to Lars. It was already like 10PM so I left after the bottom end was assembled. He said he could handle the cylinder head. Lucky for him his car wouldn't start, and he knows why....

No you don't, because it's really easy to remember that the cam pins go at 12 o'clock with the bottom end at TDC. I mean, even if you had no diagram and couldn't remember and had to take a wild *** guess, out of the three possible slots in the cam pulley that pin could possibly fit in, you'd probably pick the one pointing straight up, right?

Dammit Lars. Just remember that the trigger offset we were using before is going to be waaay off after you fix the exhaust cam, assuming it even stored that value. The bitch will run though, I know it.

Or if you a noob like me you make the knock pin towards the timing line on the head.

I will switch the trigger offset back down to zero and go from there when I try to start the car.

Yep, cam timing makes sense. She needs a little compression to make it go boom boom boom. Hopefully that does it dude.

In for vids of it running!

Hopefully Braineack comes over tonight and he works his timing belt magic and it gets started. Then I will definitely post a vid of it running and me rocking my new MT.net T-shirt.

That might explain why 90 degrees was not enough timing offset huh?

Incidentally, lars, you might wnat to just put the timing offset you used on the old motor in and try to start it and deal with timing after it's idling.

You're a big kid now Lars. You've graduated to Huggies Pull-Ups so you should be able to do your own timing belt. If you want to cheat though, look at the belt and both pulleys and see if the green sharpie marks I put on them are still visible. If they are, just line everything up by the marks. All you're changing is the cam position behind the pulley, so the marks will still be in the correct locations relative to each other. Turn the crank 1 5/6 revolutions and set the tensioner, go the extra 1/6 turn and make sure the marks are all still lined up and you're done. 5-10 minutes mang.

That's what I'm saying...

gotta drive 30 minutes to Lars's house because he cant do a timing belt. It is ridiculous how fast I'll have it done correctly...IF i come over and do it.
