Default Shuiend blows motor #5; Naturally Aspirated Glory Incoming

So I have been happily boosted since fall of 2007 running a BEGI S1 kit with an SR20 T25. At about 9 PSI I was making 200hp and 200 ft/lbs of Torque with the following dyno.

I was extremely happy with those numbers, but I wanted my car to become a track *****. After all the people complaining about studs stretching I knew that V-Bands will be in my future. Unfortunately to have fun with V-Bands you will be pushing at least a Disco Potato to 15PSI, which makes stock motors go BOOOOOM. So I decided time to build a motor and get that out of the way before I send Tim my bank account numbers so I can have some Absurdflow GODLINESS.

The plan for the built motor is something that would reliably run 350hp on the track and not blow up. I honestly never plan on running above about 250hp, but I wanted the headroom for the safety margin.

The block is from a 94 which brgracer hooked me up with. The crank is from an 01 motor that I got from Y8S I decided that I would go with a VVT head to eak out a little more power after seeing what Y8S got on his motor with it. I choose to go with a 99 IM with VICS because from what I have read it flows a bit better then the 01+ IM. I will also be upgrading to a 2870 ChinaCharger for the time being until I can afford a real Disco Potato

For engine management I will be running MegaSquirt 3 in standalone with Kevin's VVT controller. My car will be getting tuned by Jerry down at DIYAutoTune and I will be shooting for 300hp at the wheels at around 20PSI, or whatever power I make around 20psi.

Parts List

So far left to do on the install is to install my new LC-1, fill with oil and coolant, and then start the car. Hopefully tonight I get it started and engine broken in.

Here is the link to where all my pictures are hosted at. There are definitely more there then what I have posted so far.

Here is a spreadsheet of most of the parts I have boughten and how much it cost me. Don't look at this if you don't want to see large sums of money spent.

I will get up some completed pictures tonight and hopefully get a video of it running. I am praying that it all works and I didn't **** anything up.

I want to say thanks a lot to neogenesis2004 for helping put the motor together and Braineack for helping me get the engine back installed.

Can you post the part numbers for the COPs you used? I thought I read the standard DIY Toyota COP part numbers didn't fit the 01+ head.

They standard cops do not fit the Valve Cover. That is why I grinded down the stubs in the VC and I also cut up my COPS. I will post some pics of what had to be done to the cops tomorrow.

So it's just the stubs that get in the way and not the bore diameter of the plug holes?

Thanks

bore diameter. cops are .956 diameter and bore holes are about .936.

of course the flange on the COP is larger in diameter than the spark plug well trough in the valve cover.

and the mounting ears on the COPS hit various things

etc

etc

etc

Yah except that is where I have a coolant leak. I need to fix that tonight and actually get the car started.

Good looking build. Coming together nicely. That 2870 really looks like a beast next to the old turbo.

Maybe one day I won't be so ******* poor and can start on some kind of actual turbo related build.

The answer to taking better pictures is MOAR BOOST.

Nice stuffs, Lars. Looking forward to how you make out with the VVT, please follow up with that AND with what your final COPS fitment looks like.

You will reach those power goals with no problem, will not need 20psi to make 300 wheel, I says.

In the US the 6 speed was an option on the 99+ models and it is a direct bolt on except for 1 starter bolt.

How about you come over tonight with your vband stuff and we try it out on my car and I will let you know what type of numbers it puts down. I will also throw in a drill bit and tap for you.

August 2nd is my scheduled date to get tuned down at DIYAutotune so a graph should be up sometime that afternoon with what I am making. I am thinking most likely I will end up maxing out the injectors and that will be what holds me back. Unfortunately on the 99 IM reinstalling injectors is a bitch so I won't be switching to bigger ones any time soon.
