But that puts a 3in exhaust too low for me. I flipped it and removed the crossmember mounting tabs to get it thinner so a nut and bolt could be used through the crossmember itself.

Driveshaft is incredibly heavy. Way overkill. Could be out of a F350. Probably weighs as much as a Miata 5 speed trans by itself.

I always found it strange how it necks down into an Itty bitty cylinder from the hollow section.
Looking forward to hearing your impressions on shifter location and feel.
Did you sort out the speedometer?

Shifter mounted.
I've been clearancing a few miscellaneous things and making other adjustments.

That's surprising. I wonder how that'd be for the bearings for the output shaft. At least in the BMW's have a center support bearing. Alas, different drive shaft configuration .

Psyber_0ptix, are you going back to MATG this year?
I'm trying desperately to complete this but I question whether it will be the case with the time allotted. My bro Ryan_G will be unable to attend this year. I'm trying to figure out who is going with me. Troy miata2fast is intending but has possible conflicts.

Against my better judgment I think I will be going. Leaky exhaust valves and all. I may not hang super tight on spirited runs, since I have to drive it back. But it'd be one of the last hoorah's before I see about claying the pistons and learning how to figure out Max VVT angle on Tomei cams for the new head.
May have a small contingency from the area going this year. KMO25, Shibby and others.

Excellent. I'm bringing CB radios because of lack of cell service. Consider picking up a cheap one to stay in touch.
And pm me your cell so I have it. I have a tiny cabin reserved but can't recall the number.

I've been thinking about getting another CB. I used to have one on my swapped e30. But no one seems to use them anymore so I sold it off.
I'd probably just invest in a cheap compact Cobra 75wxst but need to read up on antennas again. I no longer have an SWR meter and ever since Radio shack all but disappeared, I can't just borrow one anymore.
Are you grabbing hand held units?

I've got a Cobra I picked up used and a small center weighted magnetic antenna. Should be good for a couple of miles in that terrain. Not having any cell service at all up there was a real PITA last year. I will likely rig it up so I can plug it into a wall socket at the cabin when we aren't driving so we can hear incoming calls.
Handheld might be the easy button for some of the other guys. I haven't priced them lately but I know they are really cheap. It would be nice to share news like police locations and accident info.

I put a 5in hole in the trans tunnel so I could reach through. There's a broomstick zip-tied to the diff and running where the ppf was so I can just reach down and hold it up for now. But I'm open to other ideas.
