I'll post some pictures of what I'm trying to do when I get my pieces back from the welder. I've got nothing to show at the moment.

I'm going to try to connect the old ppf to the new rear transmission crossmember. Maybe with enough zip ties and electrical tape I can make it stay.

 

Straight back from the welder and more work to be done prior to installation.

I used some Honda shock bumpstops that were cut down to sandwich the double thick PPF. I connected it to the KMiata crossmember.

The ppf is a lever arm and it will generate less force that far away from the diff than closer to it, but it was mostly pinned there for convenience.

We'll see. It's only clever if it works.

If the crossmember had a tab extending rearward a few inches to give a second mounting point the PPF may not have needed to be doubled. Or it would strengthen what I do have. With two bolts and two mounting points to the PPF and perhaps a backing plate on the topside of the PPF holes it may possibly work fine with a single thickness PPF for others. IDK.

But I do feel better that the mounting point is further from the PPF, putting it at a leverage advantage regarding the forces applied to the mounting point.

For the record, the angle difference between the trans and driveshaft is showing at 1.0 degree and the pinion angle is 1.5 degrees and expected to decrease towards 1.0 or so under a load. Gotta start somewhere.

 

Test drive says it works fine at low boost!



Still need to break in the clutch.

protect hard lines from rubbing against frame rail bolts near crossmember
better insulation of clutch hose near slave cylinder
pad the rollcage to protect my noggin
see if hardtop still fits (lol)
see why headlights don't retract
nuts/bolts double check
shielding double check
engine oil change, maybe

IIRC if you don't have the hazard/headlight control button hooked up, the lights will stay up. I seem to recall having this issues once when I took the tombstone off and forgot to reconnect the harness.

More trans and underside pics. I did a little more heat shielding after these were taken.

 

Coming together nice! That bump down to clearance the exhaust scares me a bit for some reason.

 

Added the Longacre high density SFI padding. I need to get another stick of it but you get the idea. I used two different versions, 180 degree coverage and single direction. Has adhesive backing but zipties are more reliable when it's hot.

 

I will put black carpet in it and do something with the door panels after MATG. I have new harnesses and need to replace the faded seat covers when I get the car painted. Yes, painted. Same color as the rollcage.

 

Is the door bar padding the mini HD or just the normal Sfi?

I had these and even with zip ties they would shift around when climbing in and out.

 

They are available from multiple manufacturers so there's some variation, I'm sure. These are from Longacre. All high density.
