I will likely run the stock 8.8 pistons I have been working on. My motor will not be an extreme build.

Thanks to everyone here for helping me to do this for so long!
I don't mean that it'll be an extreme build. I just mean that you're going to have a built motor now, right? Sooo that's going to have a bit more wiggle room for you reower. Looking forward to your putting it through the paces.

And I misread your question. I guess you can tell me to **** off too!

Did you hear the video?
The best noise cancelling headphones on full blast can't get rid of it. I thought the boost solenoid somehow ended up in my helmet at first but I switched it off and the noise didn't change.
I can't even bear to rev it much past 3 grand now. You should see it start up though, idles fine at 14.7. The log shows me pulling something like 12.7kpa of vacuum slowing down. It must be a broken bearing cap bolt or something like that.

Went for a nice bike ride this evening on one of my old Sheldon Brown specials.

Can I get a thread title change please?
Maybe something like sonofthehill breaks his motor but the rods didn't come out, now he'll have to pedal his bike down the 1/4 mile for a while. I know Vlad can come up with something good.

One of my favorite parts about this forum are the constant title changes to reflect current events in build threads.

And some people hate us mods doing that. We really just do it for the lulz.

Plenty of us love it. Also love the 1984 references among the mods.

Even better. Does this mean I can get some kind of emergency funding?

Only if you post pictures of yourself wearing hustlers manlet bibs.

Also, I haven't heard the name Sheldon Brown in a while. What a stand up guy. It was pretty sad to learn about his passing. Used to use his site as a reference all the time in school for bike co-op shenanigans.

Sorry to hear about your motor. But really, you should put those rods in a museum. The fact that they held up to so much abuse and weren't even what went is incredible.

Also, ditto on the Sheldon Brown reference.

Didn't he die like 9 years ago or something?

Yeah, he died when I was in college and was first getting into bike racing and wrenching. It was a neurodegenerative condition afaik.

I read a ton of his posts on bikeforums and on his site when I was first learning to do stuff and kept coming back to them because they were just that good.

RIP Sheldon Brown.

My rods are technically still contained, not even a drop of oil anywhere.

Looks I'm a bus next Wednesday, should be pretty slow, I will just try to cut good lights and run my time. I will post the timeslips for laughs.

Whelp, I did a thing.

A big fat easy button appeared, so I pushed it
This is after a primary cleaning and measuring, the bores and end play are good. I decided not to crack any of the bolts as it looks to be built with every attention to detail. I will clean it again then pull the car in for disassembly. Perhaps I can get this running and broken in by Wednesday August 2nd.
I am proceeding with the other block because I ultimately want a different compression ratio, but I can take my time now. This is still lower compression than before though, so we'll see how it goes.

Not TSE, I wish.
The origin is uncertain, which is why I was considering opening all the bearings and checking the clearances and ring gaps. However, upon inspection it appears someone took great time and care with it. It definitely has Manley rods and what appears to be JE slugs(although it looks like they say CP on the bottom .)
Not sure about the ring gaps without disassembling it though. I will run this while I continue to build 2 other blocks. If it smokes or eats oil, I will hopefully have a known good spare not far behind.

I just want to be able to take a real car to the next drag race. I did fix the leaky hose on my wife's car, so if it's not broken in by then, I can still go. It's no where near as fun in a slow car though.
