it's "ls style" though right?
that's what I meant when I said LS. I don't know the variations so yeah whatever you're running

Not an OEM coil. Seriously baller though, and the same price as the traditional
d858 lsx coils d858 lsx coils
. We need a sadfab bracket for these.

they could probably fit like the supra guys do them.

I don't have a Miata with an engine and a hood right now to check the clearances though.

This thing is fun

I think those coils might need bigger wiring, Pat, did you upgrade your wiring to run them? I bet all your wiring is upgraded.
I am thinking of the D585 truck coils, the ign1a coils a bit more expensive but used D585's are available for considerably less.

Yeah, I ran really beefy wires to the coils, IIRC a 12 gauge wire to each, then the 4 12 gauge wires go to a pair of 10 gauge wires. Grounds are about 8" long and go to cylinder head, positive wires go directly to alternator post. Beefy wiring is important to maximize voltage to the coil, the better the wiring, the less the voltage drop and thus more power to the coils.

EDIT: yeah, most wire is upgraded in the car. All the imporant stuff anyway. Fuel system, fans, radio, coils, etc.

I have been reading up on coils, the ign1a's are badass. I also think rx8 coils are similar to D585 coils at the 3.5ms dwell I will need to run with my ms2pnp. I may see if I can find some to try out and wire them as Pat suggested. Or I may just order some ign1a's.

Although, I see a lot of people complaining about the failed rx8 coils. The ign1a's are looking better and better.

just go with a commonly used/proven setup. don't jimmy rig rx8 failsauce into your setup. I want to see it running, not sitting broken like 99.99% of the rx8's and rx7's in the world.

IGN1A's have an external heatsink just to help keep them cool when abused. I've ran mine at 8ms dwell before, and they took it. Try that with a GM coil....

Trying to figure out my coils. I made a plug wire with an old ngk, not happy with the boot though so I ordered some Taylor hei boots.
I am running the stock power wires to a relay for big wire power. I am planning to put a capacitor between each of the 2 trigger wires and ground. The mega manual suggested one 0.001uf per coil to keep spikes from getting back to the megasquirt, this seems like a good thing. As if my math challenged, crappy soldering *** has any idea what that means. I'm like, what the hell is a jigawatt?
Can I just use the 2 capacitors for the wasted spark trigger wires? Do they need to be a different value in this configuration, or do I just need one at each coil? I realize that they are optional but I want to keep everything in the ignition from possibly giving me trouble.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Oh well, I am thinking maybe these coils have built in capacitors, that's why they have a separate trigger ground. A little bit of progress, my first attempt at a bracket.

Thanks!

Also another special thanks to Ian, Pat, and DKMakinson for teaching me how to diagnose and fix my lost sync problem. And they didn't even have to take any action, well Pat did.
Thanks a ton!

To be fair, it's only like 99.9% that are sitting broken. God bless the LS swap!

Bracket looks solid! I made mine from sheet metal, and while it's light, it has cracked before and I had to beef up the mounting tabs so they wouldn't break from vibration, though since doing that is has been ok. I kind of intentionally made it flimsy to save weight and see if it was ok or too flimsy.

Glad I could help! I dunno about capacitors, I didn't wire any up with my setup, though I do suppose in theory they could help a bit having some strong caps close to the coils, but they would need to be pretty beefy to do anything outside of noise suppression.
