Default The 2 fastest MK Turbos in the SF Bay Area

Met up with the one and only Nigelt today. These kits haven't been this close since Lars was making them.

Thanks Vlad, I noticed the time slip when my injector conector failed had a 60' time a tenth of a second faster. I definitely need to work on my driving techniques, but I don't want my 5 speed to explode either.
I don't think the unicorn blessed it when it did my motor

Thanks again Lars! My car is so much fun, I will definitely be a repeat customer if I get another miata, very unlikely if my wife has anything to say about it, but you never know.

Are you running launch control?

No, I haven't looked into it much yet. I honestly launch pretty gently, I don't dump the clutch or power shift.

the fastest way to break is by violently wheel hopping or bogging.
often times LC and FFS actually help with that, if set up correctly that is.

as long as you stay away from hop/bog, you should be okayish at this level

Tried launch control yesterday, it is very odd and will take some getting used to. Not as bad as over boost limiter.
So I have it set to 2800 hard limit 200 soft limit retard to 5 deg above 30% TPS. 5 deg seems to give me the least amount of popping of 0, 5, 10 & -10.
It feels like it is going to die when I am about to launch but it never dips below 2500.
I tried releasing the clutch relatively slowly and it feels very strange. From about to die to way to much power mid clutch into a screeching burnout.
When I release the clutch relatively quickly, immediate violent wheel hopping burnout, so I let off throttle.
Don't worry, no detectable damage yet.
I am at 100 TPS when I launch, should I be at part throttle?
How should I engage the clutch? Seems like relatively slowly is much better.
Are my settings reasonable?
I disabled it for now as that kind of launch goes way beyond my mechanical empathy threshold and my 5 speed is already beat to crap.

Just roasted one of those new retroTriumph Bonneville motorcycles, looks like they are over 800cc's. He was pumped, his exact words and I quote were, "What the hell did you do to that thing? That thing's awesome!"
I love this thing!

Just wait until you get the next package from me. Then you can be even faster.

Can't wait, guess I really need to find a spare 5 speed now.
To let the Miata Kitty out of the bag so to speak. I have agreed to test a few different turbos for Lars, this is the MKTURBO beta test thread after all.
Maybe he will offer a big power, built motor upgrade option for his kits in the future. Perhaps he just wants an option to the nice T3's we've been using due to the recent shortage, but I am only speculating.
Regardless of what he wants to do with the data, I have agreed to generate it for him and everyone. I will post regular updates of my progress here.
Thanks Lars, and may I say that I am honored to take part in the refinement of the MKTURBO.

Look what showed up on my doorstep today. If this thing fits around all my power steering **** we will soon know how well this 60a/r compressor performs.
I may start tonight but I need to pick up a spare 5 speed tomorrow and it's a bit of a drive so I am not sure I will finish by tomorrow. But look on the bright side if that giant compressor spewes my gears and synchros all over the road, I will have a spare.

Looks like it will fit
In spite of the power steering ****

Marked the wastegate porting I need to do, I'm going to do it just like Nigel did.
<br >
I did notice that this and 2 other bolt holes go into the turbine housing, not sure if it will be an issue. I remember us all tripping over the bolt holes in the compressor housing on the original turbos, I used nothing on mine and haven't had a problem. I think Lars is right that everything is meant to seal well at operating temperature.
