That's pretty damn cool. What year? I don't know much about old BMWs.

1976 BMW 2002. It's a carb 2.0l that is pretty slow but fun to drive. Upgraded from the 4 speed to a newer 5 speed, rwd of course. Honestly pretty well sorted after I put a bit of work into it this past month. No rust in the typical spots, which is pretty awesome. It is an Arizona car though so to be expected. But the interior is pretty beat from the sun. Sorry for shit pictures, I'll try and get something better than phone pictures.

Pretty damn good shape for it's age. It's always fun to snatch a southern rust free car. I'm actually heading back down in a month or so to pick up my old 83 Mustang and bring it back up here. It's been sitting for the better part of 15 years now. I'm surprised how well the red paint held up to the sun. Last red car I bought took a LOT of work to get it back from the faded "Texas red" color.

Very cool.

But kinda curious: why get rid of a really cool project that was nearly done just to start a new one a couple months later? Did the 1.6 hate really push you over the edge? :giggle:
We still love you of course. Old bimmers are cool.

thenuge26 04-28-2014 12:33 PM

Cool car. How much boost is it going to get?

FRT_Fun 04-28-2014 12:35 PM

I don't know how much I went into it here, but I was literally all set to go to China for a year. Ended up not enough people signed up for the study abroad program and they canceled it. If I had gone I wouldn't have a place to put a car at all.

Now that I'm not going I need something else.

Nice Bimmer, Chaz.

Fireindc 04-28-2014 12:56 PM

I like the bimmer. Any plans to make it quicker and less-boaty?

Well it weighs about as much as a miata and has stiffer springs and decent shocks. It's actually lowered a inch or so too. It handles well for being on 13" wheels with skinny tires haha. So no real plans there for the near future.

I want to eventually do dual side draft carbs like so:

But that is also way in the future. I graduate next Spring, so bigs plans are set for after that. Maybe I'll drop in some M-Power shit and go all out when I actually have a job haha.

Braineack 04-28-2014 01:17 PM

im pretty sure the slowest 1.6L miata is faster than that...

Still it has a 2.0l, bigger than 95% of this forum. :dealwithit: Plus mine makes quite a bit more power than a 1.6 miata. Weber carb, headers back, upgraded ignition, upgraded head. Suck it.

Only size matters here anyways.

Also I'll make all the club ricer kidz jizz their pants with this:

Not to mention, dat trunk lol

I heard the 1600 cars rev more freely.

I thought they revved faster?

I call first dibs on the 13" rims when part out time comes. :giggle::giggle:

I'm jealous. I love these cars. They are so simple and ridiculously reliable. I had one in Michigan when I first learned to drive so it's a little nostalgia too. I had over 300k on the odometer before I moved on. It still ran fine It was just rusty and it was time.

Nice find. Mine was gutless but it was still fun as hell to drive. It was completely stock and scary as hell in the snow!

And better gas mileage duh.

The 13" wheels are baller status. You can have them when I upgrade to larger brakes lol Not sure how these 4 piston calipers up front fit under them.

I've always admired these cars but have never really seen one for sale. I came across this guy near me while riding my bike selling this for $500. I could have turned around and sold it that day for 4-5k. I biked over to Wells Fargo, took out the cash and got the title. Long story short the dude was in a tight spot and moving that day and couldn't bring it. I've never been so lucky in my life.

So far I've done a lot of work on this car and it has all been stress free. One of the easiest cars I have ever worked on. Just a PITA getting parts.

Few more pictures (all shitty quality):

Token title change. Not that I can argue with it.

I know a thing or two about those. Happy to help if it comes to fruition.

I know nothing about them, so if I do go that route prepare your inbox.

I love me a 2002. If you slam it I will punch you in the testes. So many CR.net type kiddos are ruining them.
