Indeed. I would love to get some. The place I was going to source them from has a waiting list of 15 people.

The ones I find on ebay that are actually from an E21 are $1500.

Hard not to just grab some brand new corbeau which look pretty close. I still have to figure out the rear seat though. I want it to match the front. Can't justify $2xxx on seats though, no matter how badass.

Here is my summer project. Keeping the car running is key, since that is how I become demotivated:
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1400268124

All new seals, doors, trunk, front and rear windshield
Seals for the transmission, and rear main seal
Positive and Negative cables for the rear battery location. The current one is a bit too short for comfort.
New radiator fan
Spark Plugs
Window seals
Front Seat Belts
Relays
Plug Wires
Radio
New shift position sticker for dash (current one is for 4 speed)
Aluminum flywheel
Pedal linkage kit (more precise than the stock)
Random wiring stuff for harness I'm rebuilding.
Fuel filter
Coil
Tii Mechanical Advance Distributor
Clutch Kit
Some interior trim
Door cards
Driver and passenger window regulators and cranks
Fuel line
Brake fluid reservoir
Reservoir fittings

Lots of stuff, but I'm just going to chip away at it over the summer while driving the shit out of it. This one, mark my words, is not getting sold any time soon.

After the clutch/flywheel is in I'm going to put most of my efforts towards the interior as I said before. As mentioned I still need to figure out the seats, but the rest is pretty much set. Going with tan and black. I'm enlisting my brother to sort the audio part of the interior. Modest and OEM looking is what I plan. Simplicity is key.

That is a 2002 interior with E21 Recaros. My dream interior. This is my end goal, maybe minus recaros (which are unfortunately like the best part of that interior)

EDIT: Actually that could be an E21... I don't know, looks like 2002 rear seats and windows, but also looks like E21 dash. So who knows.

Here is an E21, you can see the same bump from the dash. That is probably an E21. Not surprising they look so similar since they share a lot of the same parts.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure it's my wife's jam now, too.... so thanks for that.

FRT_Fun 05-16-2014 03:45 PM

Hahah. I'm usually not the type to fall in love with interior/exterior things, but I love the look. Can't wait to get to that point, then part out the car.

QFT.

FRT_Fun 05-16-2014 05:49 PM

Can't say that my history would suggest otherwise, but only time will tell.

Here is my current interior, I hate these front seats. They are too big for the car so they rub and are really annoying to move forward and backward on the sliders.

Obviously the carpet is trash, and I just removed the center A/C console. Need to replace with the storage compartment still. Dash is trash also. Waiting for my regulators and door cards and then I'll put those back on and the doors will be mostly done.

Engine bay... the red brace actually made a huge difference. Seems like any time I can tie either end of the car together it is quite beneficial. Also now I can actually close the doors when I jack up one side of the car.

Cool project.

When I restored my wife's '81 380SL, I got a lot of parts from partsgeek.com. They had darn near everything for that car. Surprising. Might be worth a look as the 2002 and the Panzerwagen were contemporaries. I think there's enough German steel in each Panzerwagen to make 3 2002's.

Pic of the Panzerwagen:

It's a nice cruiser.

FRT_Fun 05-21-2014 05:44 PM

I'll check them out, always looking for places to get cheap parts. Turn signal gaskets for this thing are $40 dollars. It's horrible.

The Chinese Germans are the worst.

hornetball 05-22-2014 11:04 AM

Yep. Uro/Merle/Bosch . . . Made in China.

FRT_Fun 05-22-2014 11:15 AM

I don't know if that is sarcasm... but I'm about 100% sure that the gaskets, and random trinkets I'm getting from ebay for the 2002 are Chinese. Many of the parts are NLA.

Plus Bosch has been known to outsource to China for everything. Then still stamp made in Germany on it.

hornetball 05-22-2014 12:24 PM

Nope, not sarcasm at all. Those companies are outsourcing big time.

EO2K 05-22-2014 12:35 PM

Well, the sticker is made in Germany so that counts, right?

Ah of course. They just put the stickers made in Germany over the Made in China sticker lol.
