it's even worse with the newer ones. I literally cringe every time I visit M6G. 99% mouth breathing retards, 1% actual knowledgeable people

It's a serious struggle. If a 99-04 fits the bill they are significantly cheaper, and even newer/nicer. But the gearing is slightly different.

Edit: looks like it does have a .68 5th and the slightly different other ratios. I wonder how they would do.

I'll verify my 5th gear ratio before I install.

aidandj 09-09-2016 08:32 PM

I'm going to do a little digging and try and find some local to test out.

Mods feel free to break this discussion off into its own thread . It would be great if Mt.net became the go to t5 resource lolol.

Chiburbian 09-09-2016 10:31 PM

How good can a T5 feel compared to a Miata 5 or 6 speed. Just curious.

aidandj 09-09-2016 10:34 PM

Probably apples to oranges but the t5 in my roommates s10 is the sexiest trans I've ever shifted.

I'm mostly doing it for the bolt in huge torque solutions. When I run into that money tree I've been looking for.

Couldnt you technically just shave down the inlet on the copressor housing on a 6258 to match a 6758? Or just swap the housings if you don't want to shave it down?

aidandj 09-22-2016 12:44 AM

...wut?

Swapping the compressor housing means swapping the compressor....

It just pops off after removing the clamp

aidandj 09-22-2016 12:47 AM

what are you even talking about?

But no, a 6758 means it has a 67mm compressor wheel. 6258 means it has a 62mm compressor wheel. They aren't just compatible...

Not from what Andrew showed me. He just said the inlet on the compressor housing is slightly bigger, the compressor wheel is the same size. Either this, or I misunderstood him and I'm a dumbass.

aidandj 09-22-2016 12:55 AM

Full race 6758 specifications: BorgWarner EFR 6758 Turbo - Full-Race.com

Compressor Wheel OD: 67mm
Compressor inducer: 53.9mm

Full race 6258 specifications: BorgWarner EFR 6258 Turbo - Full-Race.com

Compressor Wheel OD: 62mm
Compressor inducer: 49.6mm

They both have a 58mm turbine wheel. Hence the 62/6758

icantlearn 09-22-2016 12:58 AM

fail. :bang:

aidandj 09-22-2016 01:00 AM

I'm still a little confused what you are talking about.

I just pulled apart my 6758 and the compressor housing fits very closely to the wheel. I guess you could like machine it out, but thats just like upgrading to the next compressor housing size.

Ok, not the compressor wheel OD, but the metal before the turbine was thinner on the 6758. Andrew said it was the same housing, but the inlet was shaved.

aidandj 09-22-2016 01:04 AM

Turbine? Or compressor?

The compressor wheel housing....where air goes in and exits to the intercooler.

18psi 09-22-2016 01:08 AM

making a mistake machining a comp housing would be a $1600+ mistake.
So yeah. no. replace it unless you're a baller machinist
