Very interested in your oil temps. After exhausting all other possibilities due to my lack of fabrication tools, I have arrived at your same solution. Subscribed.

As opposed to wrapping/taping the ground wire around the brass body of the sensor?
I've just hose clamped my ground wire to the body of the sensor and it's worked fine.

Speaking of which, that's the last wiring job I need to do on the car, will do it tomorrow.

You can see the oil temp gauge in the last track day video that I posted. Temps look good. And that was on a nearly 100* day.

^ You were recently talking about troubles with your gauge / sensor, so I wasn't sure if you were considering those numbers to be accurate.

100* day. Nope. My absolute maximum is 95F, although I don't like to drive, when it is hotter than 90*. I have 4 potential track days this month. After that, July and August are for hiding indoors.

The gauge issue happened after the track day. The sensor is located in the sump so it is an accurate location, thus accurate temp readings.

Track day went went well yesterday. I ended up taking my downpipe out to fix the rubbing issue and a leak the day before. I also fixed the oil temp reading. Its a long story that I don't care to explain. But in short, the sensor was bad, so I replaced it with a new one that came with the replacement gauge. I was up till 1am the night before the track day and up at 5 so I didn't get much sleep.

When I got to the track, I missed the first 2 sessions because we didn't get the minor form notarized (I'm 17 fyi) and my dad wasn't present so I had to wait for him to get there. I also skipped the last session because it started to rain and I wasn't gonna do that with hoosiers. So I only got 3 sessions in.

Here is some footage.
4th session

3rd session

I really need new coilovers so those will be the next upgrade. spring rates were extremely soft. Also the hoosiers were very heat cycled so they had as much grip as my rs3s did. So ill drive them till they chord and then ill swap the rs3s back on. Oil temps looked great. I think the max I saw was 208. very happy with that.

Valve train related. Too high pitched for rod knock.

Can you locate the noise? You might want to pop the belts off and run it for a few seconds (don't run it for long w/o the water pump) to see if it goes away with the accessories.

Good Idea Ian. Ill try that after work today. But it sounds like its coming from the timing belt area. Like one of the roller/tensioner bearings blew up or something.

its the water pump. I took off the accessory belts and there is no noise. I can also wiggle the pulley.

Did you torque the bolts on it properly? It's easy to forget because you can't torque them until after you've put the belt on and tensioned it. I lost my water pump belt on 87 driving past the Shark Tank once.

Turns out it was just loose water pump pulley bolts. When I was taking it apart I noticed the pulley bolts were just hand tight. I took the pulley off I tried to wiggle the water pump neck (thing that the pulley bolts to) for good measure and there was no movement. So I put everything back together and started the car and no more noise. yay.

In other news, I took advantage of the 20% off sale Maxxis is having and ordered a set of 245 rc-1. Now I need 15x10s.

I also got a used supermiata damper from a member on CR. But I need a new trigger wheel to use it. So ill probably just get one from Andrew.

What trigger wheel did it come with? And I would get on that. Damper is discontinued, so who knows how much longer the trigger wheels will be available.
