Default 2002 Miata, Red, Tan Interior, Beautiful car!

PRICE REDUCEED TO $9,000-2002 Miata, Red, Tan interior, Low miles, Beautiful, 248 wheel HP @ 12 psi. Car located near Beaumont, Texas.

I bought this car with 55k miles on it in 2009 for my wife. She loved it until I turbocharged it and it lost some of its stock mild manners. So I put it aside in my sop in 2010 and bought her a used BMW Z4 which she also loved. Two years ago, after on-and-off attempts to fine tune the Adaptronic ECU with little success, I took the car to BEGI in San Antonio (300 miles from my home) and had them remove the Adaptronic ECU and reflash the stock ECU to be tunable (a feature not available when I first turbo’d), change injectors, tune the system and replace a number of mechanical items. It dyno’d at 248 HP/227 ft-lbs torque at 12 psi and now drives like a stock daily driver. It is great fun to drive, but I can’t justify keeping it along with the other motorsports projects I have accumulated. It now has 60K miles on it and looks as good as the day I bought it.

Here is a rundown on the car’s features:

Exterior –

No dents, no rust, nearly flawless, Red paint/tan soft top. Beautiful factory aerodynamic body parts – front lip, side skirts, mudguards, spoiler. Stock Miata wheels in great shape, tires will need replacement after the new owner takes delivery.

Interior –

Clean, nearly perfect, light wear on driver side bolster, basically stock. Stock Bose sound system. Dual gauge pod on left pillar – boost and AFR. Boss Frog dual hoop polished stainless steel roll bar.

Engine/Tranny –

Complete BEGI S3 turbocharging system, GT2560 turbo, Tial EWG w/7 psi spring, separated gasses SS downpipe, cool air package, No. 1 intercooler, ceramic coated BEGI cast iron turbo header, coolant reroute, braided hoses, heat deflectors, 450cc injectors, stock ECU “reflashed/chipped/dyno tuned”, 3” aluminized steel exhaust from downpipe back, Dynamax silencer, large Magnaflo muffler, no catalytic converter (stock cat comes with car). Stock 6 speed tranny, FM clutch. Dial-a-boost for variable boost 7 to 12 psi.

While at BEGI in January, 2016 I had them replace fuel filter, front O2 sensor, spark plugs, fuel pump, and changed oil (synthetic).

Miscellaneous –

Everything works – A/C, PS, electric windows, etc.

Pricing –

You all know what it costs to build a very nice, low-miles car with these features and that it is a losing proposition when you sell. I have a total of nearly $20,000 in the car, (including the original used purchase price of $11,000) and have only put 5K miles on it. I want $9,000 as a buy-it-now price (includes up to $500 in new tires). At all times I will sell to the first buyer that puts a $1,000 cash deposit in my hand. If you seriously want a near-perfect 1999-2005 series Miata that runs like a bat out of hell, do yourself a favor and let go of the cash, save yourself money and all the headaches that come from building from scratch. You cannot build this car with premium equipment for $10K.

Thanks for looking.

So BEGi is making the stock NB ECU tunable now? This is the first time I have heard of this.

begi can flash a stock ecu. The problem is anytime you make a change begi needs to flash it again, you cannot tune it yourself. And reflahing with every change you make will add up to $$$

very clean car, me like.

That is correct, the stock ecu was flashed with new fuel and timing maps. I just had so much trouble with tuning the Adaptronics ecu that this option made sense for me for restoring stock driving manners at a reasonable cost. I am an old guy and digital tuning of a stand-alone ecu from scratch was beyond my comfort zone. I should have known better. I had turbo'd some carbureted VW engines an

Also, the profile information at the bottom of my post is out of date - it still refers to the Adaptronics ecu and 600cc injectors which have been removed.
That is correct, the stock ecu was flashed with new fuel and timing maps and additional tuning would have to be done by Bell Tuning & Performance. I am an old guy and digital tuning of a stand-alone ecu from scratch was beyond my comfort zone. I should have known better. I had turbo'd some carbureted VW engines and a Honda V6 (using the stock ecu, a high pressure fuel pump, and a rising rate FPR) for my offroad car with great success.

Currently, I adjusted the Miata's boost to 10 psi max instead of 12 psi. At 10 psi it still pulled hard to 130 mph before I decided that was fast enough on old tires for my dose of adrenalin.

Also, the profile information at the bottom of my post is out of date - it still refers to the Adaptronics ecu and 600cc injectors which have been removed. The ecu and injectors are for sale, as well.

I have more photos and can take more if anyone wants more detailed information.

Thanks for looking.

My last post was a little garbled. Sorry, I am rusty. Apparently, posting on forums is beyond my comfort zone, as well.

Default Update from the OP

I still have the 2002 turboMiata for sale. I have had so many inquiries in response to a Craigslist ad that were obvious scams that I had about given up on trying to sell the car. I will answer some questions that have been asked about the car through PM's on this forum and offer some additional information that has developed since I first posted the car for sale on Miataturbo.net

1. The clutch is a FM stage 1, flywheel is stock.2. As far as I know the engine still has the OEM timing belt and water pump. The car was 7 years old and 55K miles when I bought it in 2009 and it has had no replacement of belt or pump since I have owned it.3. The only tuning results I have from the BEGI ECU flash/upgrade is a dyno run. If any additional info is still available I should be able to get it from Stephanie Turner from what is now Bell Tuning & Performance.4. I am running the coolant reroute.5. Suspension is stock.6. I do not currently have video of the car running but I can make one if you let me know what you would like to see – in-car view of dash, static engine running with hood up, etc.7. Additional comments:§ Since posting the car for sale I have discovered 1) Radio LCD display is failing to show all digits 2) CEL stays on continuously due to CAT delete – I had Bell Tuning try a deep O2 sensor well which worked for a while 3) AFR gauge needs recalibrating (or worst case new O2 sensor)§ Turbo engine makes tons of power but does exhibit an annoying hiccup, or stumble, upon adding throttle for full boost then quickly reducing throttle for lower power output. It is like signaling the turbo you want full power then changing your mind confuses it and it coughs. It will go back to full power with full throttle application. I have learned to adjust my application of throttle to smooth out the hiccup, but the power comes on so strong that it is easy to ask for more power than you really want. I will troubleshoot this issue as I get time. I don’t know yet if it is a tuning issue or wastegate or a surge issue.§ I think my original post clearly stated that the catalytic converter has been removed so I could run a full 3” aluminized steel exhaust. I am just emphasizing this for those who live in areas that require environmental inspections (most metropolitan areas). My local area does not require it.§ I can be reached at (409) 893-1606 or nblackman@att.net. My name is Norman
