I think that @Braineack might enjoy this piece, if he's willing to put the time into reading it.

To give a very brief synopsis, it's a whistleblower story written by 25 year NPR veteran Uri Berliner, on how "the network lost its way when it started telling listeners how to think."

It's worth the read, and I'm going to quote a very brief portion of the intro here, beacuse even if that's all anyone takes away from this post, it's important:

It’s true NPR has always had a liberal bent, but during most of my tenure here, an open-minded, curious culture prevailed. We were nerdy, but not knee-jerk, activist, or scolding.

In recent years, however, that has changed. Today, those who listen to NPR or read its coverage online find something different: the distilled worldview of a very small segment of the U.S. population.

If you are conservative, you will read this and say, duh, it’s always been this way.

‎But it hasn’t.

We also interviewed Berliner on our network yesterday:

I too enjoy it when an organization investigate themselves internally and find no wrongdoing.

Where did it say that NPR has investigated itself and cleared itself of wrongdoing?

How to simultaneously promote and insult the Navy

Maybe the guy with the hand on his shoulder should have pointed out that the scope is mounted backwards and the covers are still on. I’m guessing it was “Hold this like your shooting and we’ll photoshop in some ejected casings.”

I need some of that special military ultra smokeless gunpowder. Two casings in the air and not even a puff of smoke coming out of the barrel. AI or photoshop?

It's the navy, so no powder at all. Electric railgun.

It won't let me read the rest of the story without paying or setting up an account or something. Every time I scroll down past a point it jumps to the top of the page again and I'm not interested in giving them my information. Can you cut and paste the story so that I may read?

It's libertarian 101.

Other parts of libertarian ideas outside of economics are strange things like "live and let live."

Other tenets include:

You belong to yourself. No one owns you but you.

You aren't allowed to take other people's property or labor involuntarily and they can't take yours.

Questioning whether our people are serving our mission with integrity, based on little more than the recognition of their identity, is profoundly disrespectful, hurtful, and demeaning.

I guess my humorous comparison missed the mark.

NPR was a good landing spot for her. Offers a bit of a reprieve from the rigors of fact finding that Wikimedia is committed to.

NPR: How dare people suggest that we don't tolerate a broad range of viewpoints on our taxpayer-supported platform!

Also NPR: All dissenters will be punished.

NPR has formally punished Uri Berliner, the senior editor who publicly argued a week ago that the network had "lost America's trust" by approaching news stories with a rigidly progressive mindset.

Berliner's five-day suspension without pay, which began last Friday, has not been previously reported.

NPR CEO is at least a very "middle-leaning" individual.
