I can't remember:

Is Germany a beacon of modern industrialized austerity, running fiscal surpluses with super low unemployment and shaking their finger at the lazy, profligate, unionized PIIGS?

Or is it a socialized, European basketcase - basically France with sauerkraut?

Are you a republican or a democrat as that will determine which one is true. Not really true but what you think is true.

Remember, companies providing health coverage for employees was something that employers did as a result of Federal policies--that is, when the Government capped the amount they could pay employees during WWII, they started offering healthcare compensation packages in order to up the anty and incentisize better employees to come work for them.

Things escalated, today, we only pay on the average of 12% out of pocket for health coverage...in the 1960's it was closer to 50%. You've just been born into the system.

Like always, bad government policy begets bad government policy. The world existed before our time, you know...we are just living throught the repricussions and creating silly laws to fix bad laws the made shit suck that will make things worse.

I think it would be great if companies all started dropping healthcare coverage. It needs to be separated from employment anyway. Plus in the meantime all the right wing bigoted evil companies will lose all their employees first. The fines they pay will be nice for setting up a better system of universal healthcare.

I cant wait for the bread lines.

Scrappy Jack 11-02-2012 09:19 AM

In theory, I would love to see health insurance separated from employers as well. I'd like to see health insurance exchanges set up where individuals can do their own comparison shopping and pay for their coverage without it being tied to a particular employer.

I seem to recall that was one of the Republican planks for health care reform, along with opening insurance competition across state lines.

Employers could still offer benefits like generous matching of Health Savings Account contributions.

As always, "devil in the details" caveat exists in terms of wage adjustment, tax treatment, Federal regulation, etc.

France honestly isn't as bad off as the news reports would have you believe. They still have a very strong manufacturing sector (cars, aircraft, industrial machinery), and a huge agricultural export market as well. The only problem is that, as with many first-world nations, certain segments of the population can at times be a tad whiny.

One thing I will say about the French is that they are extremely professional about their rioting and protesting. In late 2010, I flew through CDG on my way into Germany. My flight passed through Paris on the day immediately after the huge labor strike was scheduled to end, and I was a tad worried about the effect that this might have on the operation of the airport. Truth is, you'd never know anything had taken place. When the French say "We are going to riot and burn the city for three days, and then we will stop and return to work," they stick to their word.

And, to be honest, I think the whole sauerkraut thing is blown out of proportion. Domestically, at least in the north-west, the Germans seem to be much more serious about their stews and curries. Good stuff.

Sweet, Bill just summed up why I'm voting Obama as a vote against Mitt.

Opti 11-02-2012 11:52 PM

Your in texas bro, obama will win dallas county, but romney will win everywhere else by a landslide.

Who cares if he wanted a boobie statue covered up, we are supposed to be accepting of everyone, if some titties offeneded him what does it hurt to cover it up, we do similar things for other religions and ethnicities with way bigger reprocusions, to the point where they infringe on others rights and nobody cares because it's ipto be accepting.

You know what we've had to deal with because of obama, that probably hasn't happened with any other president...his friends going around saying death to america!!!!!!

Im worried about the economy and obama has a great track record of showing he's not equipped to fix it.

This is why I'm voting for Gary Johnson. Illinois will go to Obama by 20 points and while Obama would be my choice versus Romney, neither of them are very good candidates. Might as well vote for a 3rd party and hope they get 5% for 2016.

This is what kind of cracks me up about the "are you better off than you were 4 years ago" argument. The vast majority of the population is better off than they were 4 years ago. Just looking at it economically, I'm making 30% more than I was in 2008.

cool story!!!!!

you probably have a college education, since if you looked at statistics, you could see, those with degrees, who were currently employed, didnt really get hit.

I had over $100,000 in the bank. I lived like an animal for over 3 years, I then sold my house, went into massive debt, and moved into a 600 sq ft apartment for 2 years.

I dunno why I even bother responding to you with this.

But not doing well enough. This administration has done everything in its power to slow the economy down, so obama could get reelected and work towards his third term, so he can be just like FDR.

Obama cant be blamed FOR the recession, but he sure as hell hasn't helped make it better. Using history as a benchmark, he's handled it worse than any other president that's had to serve during a recession.

hope and change = continue big spending and cronyism of the Bush years.

If you hate Bush, you sure as hell shouldn't like Obama.

Like how everyone ignore how the GOP in the house and senate have had 1 goal for the last 4 years to do nothing but say no to everything Obama asks for. They have the lowest approval rating in history yet nothing changes there and no one point fingers at them.

youre not doing better than me. Im not saying i was doing bad.

i didnt lose my job, i got a better one.

i didnt foreclose on my home, i saved money and bought my way out of my mortgage.

i also have minor dyslexia and full blown ADHD.

Opti 11-03-2012 05:52 PM

So what your saying is he gets credit for the good stuff but anything bad is the house and senates fault.

Reminds me of Tony Romo here in dfw, according to the cowboy homers, none of his many interceptions are his fault but all the wins are because he's so awesome.

Even if it is the house and senates fault, he's the damn POTUS, it's his job to deal with that, if the gop is battling him maybe he needs to work with them. He is supposed to be a leader, get things done and bring people together it's part of the job and obviously he can't handle it.

It's not Obama's fault. This goes all the way back to Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt (both democrats), who are the ones that oversaw the introduction of the Federal Reserve and ordered the separation of the US Dollar from the Gold Standard, respectively. If it weren't for those two, Brainey would still have his house, and the Fed could have paid off his mortgage and bought him another cat with all the surplus we'd be rolling in.
