As a constitutionalist, I hate the idea of the government borrowing or printing money and giving it away. The government isn't your mother's tit.

I also don't like the message that the government's job is to guarantee you don't skin your knee when you do stupid things like choosing to live hand to mouth. I have only met a few people ever who couldn't make better choices and live on less money. Most could make more money if they applied themselves, too. Everyone should be prepared for hiccups so they can help both themselves and others.

America is the land of self-reliance and rugged individualism. It is the land of opportunity, not government intervention.

It is also a terrible precedent to give money to people who don't have to repay it. Thanks, President Johnson.
