Minneapolis City Council, which voted to dismantle police, unsettled by rise of crime and demand action from law enforcement

...Minneapolis City Council members, who recently voted to defund the police department, demanded answers from the city’s police chief for the recent uptick in crime.

“What I am sort of flabbergasted by right now is colleagues, who a very short time ago were calling for abolition, are now suggesting we should be putting more resources and funding into MPD,” Councilmember Phillipe Cunningham, who supported defunding the department, said during a police reform meeting Tuesday.

The council took more than $1 million from the police budget this summer to hire "violence interrupters," who are supposed to defuse potentially violent situations instead of police officers. The impetus for the policy came in the aftermath of George Floyd's death during his arrest by Minneapolis police officers on May 25, sparking protests all over the country.

In June, the council voted unanimously to dismantle the police department in favor of a "Department of Community Safety." That plan was delayed in August when the Minneapolis Charter Commission voted to take more time to review the plan.

We gotta do our part to keep hospitals from being overrun.

WASHINGTON POST: THOUSANDS OF ALZHEIMER’S PATIENTS ARE DEAD BECAUSE OF THE LOCKDOWNS

by Kevin Ryan

More than 134,200 people have died from Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia since March. That is 13,200 more than average, according to an analysis of federal data by The Washington Post.

These “excess deaths” are not from COVID infection, but instead from the impact of the shutdowns, such as from hospitals restricting non-coronavirus treatments and care being delayed.

People with Alzheimer’s are dying “from the very strategy of isolation that’s supposed to protect them,” the Post article says. “In recent months, doctors have reported increased falls, pulmonary infections, depression, and sudden frailty in patients who had been stable for years.”

Social and mental stimulation are among the most important activities that help slow the progress of dementia. But many states have forbidden people from visiting loved ones in hospitals and nursing homes since the pandemic began. For much of the pandemic, the only way family members could see their loved ones in clinics and care facilities was through a window.

And that led to a dramatic downward spiral in many Alzheimer’s patients.

“We have clients who have lost almost 30 pounds,” said Sharon O’Connor, who runs a program for dementia patients in DC. “Some just don’t have reason to get up anymore, so they stay in bed all day. Others sit by themselves in a dark room.”

Families have begged the states to rescind the lockdown orders that only allowed them to see their wives, husbands, mothers and fathers for one reason: deathbed visits.

And these so-called “excess deaths” since the pandemic began are not restricted to Alzheimer’s and dementia. Diabetes and heart disease are also on the rise. And some afflictions are just starting to show the impact of the state shutdowns, restrictions on non-COVID hospital care, and patient fear of leaving their homes to seek help. Doctors fear epidemics of diseases like cancer, undiagnosed and untreated during the lockdowns, could be on the way.

Defund the police.

the Sgt who was later killed did an interview prior to this, saying how due to the current climate of police, he was hesitant to be the next person accused of excessive use of force.

Man arrested for allegedly punching 84-year-old female Trump supporter in face

A California man has been arrested after allegedly attacking a group of President Trump supporters and striking an 84-year-old woman in the face.

“He took his hand way back like he was going to punch me, and [he] hit me right across the face,” 84-year-old Donna Snow told KCAL 9 News Los Angeles about the alleged attack at a Wednesday night Trump rally in Aliso Viejo, California. “Broke my earrings off.”

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says a retired police officer stepped in, pulling his gun and apprehending the man who was allegedly armed with a knife at one point and screaming profanities at the group as he tried to flee.

Alvin Gary Shaw, 33, is in police custody facing charges of elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault and battery.

We are on the verge of either overcoming this enormous political machine that has become the radical left, or we are about to have to fight for our freedoms.
These are interesting times.

Bill O'Reilly says the "Communist" mayor of New York City has bankrupted NYC and buried it under a $9 BILLION deficit so de Blasio is furloughing all city employees, including himself, to save $800K.
Bill argues that he should take a permanent furlough to avoid hurting the city any further.

Some white people like to pretend being black, climate change does (indirectly) cause arson, and Ruth Bader Ginsberg did not kill herself.

So this is the first time I've been on the desktop version of this site. How does Japan have the best of everything? Damned cat street view is hilarious.

:bowrofl:

I must have put that link there like ten years ago. I used to change them out on a regular basis. Kinda got lazy.

I swear, it constantly amazes me to learn that so many people use Android / iOS devices as their primary means of network access. I should stop being surprised by this, but it never gets old.

I'm not saying that I don't ever use mobile devices, but I consistently detest being steered towards "mobile" versions of websites. Or being asked "wouldn't you rather install our app instead?" every time, which is worse.

I try really hard not to be a Luddite. I'm not one of those guys who talks about how much better the internet was back when you accessed it in 80x25 text mode, because it wasn't. It was objectively worse in every measurable way.

It's just that, to me, making the leap forward to a 6" screen on a browser with severely crippled functionality is kinda like stepping back to that '386 with a 13" CRT, running ProComm Plus over a 9600 baud modem. Only the keyboard is worse.

Also, since this is the politics thread: Ruth Bader Epstein did not kill themself with COVID-19.

At least IB makes it easy by having the shittiest app imaginable.

Going to be an interesting two months, for sure.

The only computers I have are my pawn shop tuning laptop (basically garbage) and my surface pro, the surface isn't really good for browsing text it's a amazing chrome cast remote though. I also hate the download our app annoyance.

Politics to stay on topic, did we find out what color lizard RBG was yet?

They TRY to have the shittiest app, but they fail at that, too.

Speaking of which, where the hell are our corporate overlords? I haven't heard from them since whathisname (the guy who replaced the guy who replaced Nolan) got replaced.

I find it hard to believe that they no longer care about us, because that would mean that they don't passionately hate each and every one of us, wish each of us specific and individual harm. And that's obviously just not not a realistic scenario.

On the other hand, it HAS been quite a while since they've dramatically broken the forum by pushing capricious and untested code changes to it with no prior warning at 4:50pm on a Friday.
