In most federations wrist straps are not legal, so when training the deadlift grip strength becomes a limiting factor. This leaves you with two options:

hook grip, which hurts and can cause longer term issues according to some, or reverse grip as shown here.

reversing the hands as such will reduce the tendency of the bar to want to 'roll' out of your hands. If you imagine it from the side and draw a free body diagram, it cancels the small moment/torque imparted by double overhand and will make the lifter have that much extra grip capacity.

The person on the right is Audrey Hale, a biological female who identifies as male, is white, and recently killed six people at a school in Nashville.
