STOP CALLING THE POLICE WHEN YOU HAVE FAMILY MEMBERS YOU ARE CONCERNED FOR AT NEED.

Las Vegas Metro Police have released the body cam footage showing two officer shooting and killing a mentally disabled man. 24-year-old Abel Correa was at his mothers house when she called police. Instead of helping Correa, who the officers personally knew, he was executed on the spot. Though the body cam footage doesn't show it, police claim that he was armed with a wrench and a screwdriver.

Clark County Undersheriff Kevin McMahill held a press conference in which he stated that Correa "was in dire need of mental health services" and that his officers "had 7 prior contacts" with Correa.

When it comes to mental health issues in this Country, we, the system, often fail people who need critical services and don't get them.

However, Undersheriff McMahill states that Correa 'lunged' at one of the officers with the screwdriver and wrench, though that cannot be clearly seen in the video. Both officers, Officer Glen Taylor and Officer Eli Prunchak on administrative leave.

If the LVMP knew beforehand that Correa had severe mental issues, why didn't they take the appropriate measures to ensure his safety? Knowing they would encounter a mentally unstable man, officers could have been prepared to use non-lethal devices, such as taser guns, bean-bag guns, or a host of other measures. Instead, they shot and killed Correa within 1 second of him opening the door fully - 1 second.

Police have had a long history of beating, abusing, and killing mentally-disabled citizens. Unfortunately, it usually starts when a loved-one calls police in an attempt to get the person help. However, police are not trained to handle mental health issues. In fact, their number one objective is to neutralize the person by using any means necessary.

Texas Deputy Fired After Leaving Dog in Car to Die of Heat, Marking at Least the Seventh K-9 to Die This Way Since June - PINAC

Another law enforcement officer killed a police dog by leaving it in a patrol car for several hours under the hot sun, marking at least the seventh K-9 to die this way since June.

This time it was Jola, a K-9 for the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office in Texas, who died after being left in a car for more than 20 hours.

Deputy Latham Roldan was fired over the incident and remains under investigation by the county attorney, according to the Alice Echo News Journal.

Under Texas law, Roldan should be charged with a felony, specifically Texas Penal Code 38.151 (b) (6) and (7), which states the following is a second-degree felony, punishable by a prison sentence of anywhere between two years to two decades:

$500 says he's not charged in a crime because it was an honest "mistake"

California bans grand juries in fatal shootings by police - San Jose Mercury News

Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation Tuesday making California the first state in the nation to ban the use of grand juries to decide whether police officers should face criminal charges when they kill people in the line of duty.

The ban, which will go into effect next year, comes after grand juries in Ferguson, Missouri, and Staten Island, New York, made controversial decisions in secret hearings last year not to bring charges against officers who killed unarmed black men, sparking protests across the country. Calls for transparency also have come amid national concerns about disparate treatment of blacks and other racial minorities when encounters with cops turned deadly in Baltimore, Cincinnati and South Carolina.

"What the governor's decision says is, he gets it -- the people don't want secrecy when it comes to officer-involved shootings," said retired judge and former San Jose independent police auditor LaDoris Cordell, the first African-American appointed as a judge in Northern California and a key supporter of the bill. "We're not trying to get more officers indicted. We're saying, 'Whatever you decide, do it in the open.'"

The governor Tuesday also signed a bill by state Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, that makes it clear it is legal to take a photograph or video of a police officer while the officer is in a public place or in a place the person photographing the action has a right to be. Both bills are the first of a wave of Ferguson-inspired criminal justice reforms now making their way through the Legislature.

...

[currently] No judges or defense attorneys participate in the grand jury process, and in California, transcripts of the hearings are sealed unless someone is indicted or a judge grants permission for their release.

...

But the California District Attorneys Association and the California Police Chiefs Association opposed the ban, saying the grand jury should be preserved as an option. Imposing a blanket prohibition would discriminate against police officers on the basis of their occupation, they argued. The association suggested that the Legislature could increase transparency by allowing grand jury transcripts to be released in cases for which no one was indicted.
shocker.

Knoxville cops say beating caught on camera was done with palm strikes

Police in Knoxville, Tennessee responded to a federal civil rights lawsuit by saying one of their officers actually hit a 31-year-old undocumented immigrant with his palm and denying responsibility for his injuries, WBIR-TV reported.

Attorneys for Ernesto Delgadilo Rodriguez filed the lawsuit in response to a July 2014 encounter with Officer Thomas Thurman during a traffic stop that left him requiring a breathing tube, in addition to suffering facial fractures.

Dashcam footage shows Rodriguez lying face down on a police cruiser while Thuman’s colleague, Officer Fred Kimber, attempts to handcuff him. Thurman is then seen approaching the vehicle, grabbing Rodriguez, and striking him as Rodriguez yells, before hitting him with his knee.

Authorities said that Thurman was not actually punching Rodriguez, but hitting him with his palm, as per department training. They also said that Rodriguez’s injuries came as a result of his face hitting the pavement after being taken down to the ground.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel reported that Rodriguez was hospitalized, then charged with aggravated assault, assaulting officers and resisting arrest. The charges were later dropped “on the expectation” he would be deported. However, Rodriguez continues to live in the area.

Kimber originally encountered Rodriguez while responding to his girlfriend’s accusation that he attacked her inside his appartment. According to the lawsuit, Kimber theatened to use his Taser on Rodriguez when he tried to complain about the handcuffs hurting him.

However, the suit stated, hospital records show that Rodriguez was allegedly arrested for “failing to obey a child support order.” He was also allegedly put in jail for months and forced to wear a cervical collar.
see video and hospital pictures of "open-palm" injuries in link.

all assault charges against the victim were dropped. he was beat unconscious and his face was fractured and required a breathing tube. Those are some awesome open-palmed strikes.

Washington Post reporter charged with trespassing, interfering with a police officer - The Washington Post

A Washington Post reporter who was arrested at a restaurant last year while reporting on protests in Ferguson, Mo., has been charged in St. Louis County with trespassing and interfering with a police officer and ordered to appear in court.

Wesley Lowery, a reporter on The Post’s national desk, was detained in a McDonald’s while he was in Missouri covering demonstrations sparked by a white police officer fatally shooting an unarmed black 18-year-old.

A court summons dated Aug. 6 — just under a year after Lowery’s arrest — was sent to Lowery, 25, ordering him to appear in a St. Louis County municipal court on Aug. 24. The summons notes that he could be arrested if he does not appear.

“Charging a reporter with trespassing and interfering with a police officer when he was just doing his job is outrageous,” Martin Baron, executive editor of The Post, said in a statement Monday. “You’d have thought law enforcement authorities would have come to their senses about this incident. Wes Lowery should never have been arrested in the first place. That was an abuse of police authority.

“This latest action represents contemptible overreaching by prosecutors who seem to have no regard for the role of journalists seeking to cover a major story and following normal practice,” Baron continued.

Pistol-whipped detective says he didn’t shoot attacker because of headlines
POSTED 9:35 AM, AUGUST 15, 2015, BY CNN

A Birmingham, Alabama, police detective who was pistol-whipped unconscious said Friday that he hesitated to use force because he didn’t want to be accused of needlessly killing an unarmed man.

“A lot of officers are being too cautious because of what’s going on in the media,” said the officer, who asked to remain anonymous for the safety of his family. “I hesitated because I didn’t want to be in the media like I am right now.”

Details of last week’s incident in the Birmingham enclave of Roebuck remain sketchy — such as how did the suspect get the officer’s weapon — but the six-year police veteran said he didn’t shoot the man who attacked him during a traffic stop because of the outcry surrounding a spate of police shootings nationally.

“We don’t want to be in the media,” he said. “It’s hard times right now for us.”

Heath Boackle, a sergeant with the Birmingham Police Department and president of the city’s Fraternal Order of Police, said Thursday that cops are “walking on eggshells because of how they’re scrutinized in the media.”

“We should be thanking the good Lord because he could be dead right now.,” Boackle said of the detective who was beaten.

Police Chief A.C. Roper sees the episode — as well as the reaction, including celebratory and vitriolic comments posted online alongside images of the wounded officer — as symptomatic of a larger problem, in which some don’t respect law enforcement.

“The nobility and integrity of policing has been challenged,” Roper said. “As a profession, we have allowed popular culture to draft a narrative which is contrary to the amazing work that so many officers are doing everyday across this nation.”

Detective struck with his own weapon

The incident occurred last Friday when the detective was on his way to interview a robbery witness and saw a car that was carrying at least two people traveling erratically on the interstate, according to police.

“He calls for backup and tells the man to stay in the car, but he didn’t,” Boackle told CNN in a phone interview. “The last thing the officer remembers is getting sucker-punched in a parking lot. The next thing, he’s waking up in a hospital bed with staples in his head.”

According to Boackle, the detective spoke to Janard Cunningham, who was sitting the car. The detective decided to call for backup so that he could continue his robbery investigation while another officer handled the traffic stop.

While he was calling for backup, Cunningham allegedly exited the car and became aggressive, approaching the detective and repeatedly questioned why he’d been pulled over, the union chief said. The detective considered using force but thought better of it and continued his call when Cunningham hit him, Boackle said.

Cunningham is accused of then “pistol whipping” the officer with his own service weapon, Boackle said.

The officer suffered multiple lacerations to his head and face but is expected to recover from his injuries, according to Boackle. The University of Alabama-Birmingham treated and released him the same day. He’s recovering at home and has not yet returned to duty, Boackle said.

Chief calls reaction ‘absolutely inhumane’

Adding insult to injury: several bystanders, instead of helping, took pictures of the bloodied officer as he was facedown on the concrete and posted the images on social media, where the officer was mocked.

Many people rose to the officer’s defense, but the detective’s colleagues were outraged by a collection of posts that seemed to revel in the beating.

“Pistol whipped his ass to sleep,” one user wrote, employing the hashtag #FckDaPolice. Another mockingly offered the officer milk and cookies for his “nap time.”

Roper, the Birmingham police chief, called the fact bystanders would take pictures of an officer being beaten rather than help him, then proceed to post them, “absolutely inhumane.” The online commenters only made it worse.

“It really speaks to the lack of their morality and humanity,” the chief said. “People commented on the pictures in a celebratory fashion … disregarding that this public servant has a family and is committed to serve in some of our most challenging communities.”

Police support officer, who is ‘doing much better’

Some Birmingham officers feel that “if the roles were reversed, there would be demonstrations” and an “outcry from the public,” Boackle said.

“The officer was beaten and just left there. People were there long enough to take pictures of the officer full of blood and put it on social media. … No one stopped to help,” he said. “We’re lucky we’re not talking about an officer who was shot and killed with his own weapon.”

CNN affiliate WBRC tweeted a photo depicting the bleeding officer.

According to the city’s police chief, the officer is “doing much better than he was on the day of the attack.” Roper said his department stands firmly behind a man who he called a “good officer through these years.”

“I gave him a direct order,” Roper said. “Your mission is to get better and to spend time with your family. He gladly accepted.”

Suspect charged with attempted murder

Cunningham allegedly fled the scene but was apprehended later Friday, police said. He is charged with attempted murder and is being held without bond. A second man taken into custody with Cunningham has not been charged with a crime, police said.

Tracking dogs were brought in to help search for another possible suspect, but authorities later said they believed there was no third person.

Cunningham, 34, of Center Point appeared in court Tuesday where his first hearing was postponed, CNN affiliate WBRC reported. His mother told Jefferson County District Court Judge Shelly Watkins that the family would be hiring a lawyer, according to the Alabama Media Group, a collection of news outlets that includes The Birmingham News.

Paperwork on file in Watkins’ office had no lawyer listed for Cunningham. His mother hung up on a CNN reporter seeking comment, and a subsequent voice message left for her was not immediately returned.

“I feel that in today’s society, both from law enforcement and the citizens, we have to trust in one another and do the best we can for this world as a whole,” Boackle said.

Said the officer who was beaten: “I appreciate everyone’s support. I have a concussion and I’m still heavily medicated. Right now, I need to focus on healing and getting better.”

Good.

I like the idea that cops only have two options: preemptively shooting unarmed citizens, or failing to control a situation and getting beaten with their own weapons. Too bad police training doesn't cover anything between those two extremes.

In this video, you see Lubbock Police officers apparently abusing a Hispanic male who is sitting beside a wrecked Lubbock squad car. You see the first office come up and without provocation, kick Jose Carlos Escarcega-Ysaias in the face, and then the beating begins. Other than to say that it is wrong, I’m not going to comment on that, nor on Escarcega’s unprovoked violent assault on Lubbock Police Corporal Ryan Durrett. Nor will we be discussing it in the comments. On that, we are going to wait and see what the Internal Affairs investigation reveals.

No, what we are going to focus on it the attempt of the Lubbock Professional Police Association (LPPA) to silence a sitting city councilman from calling for an investigation into possible criminal violations by city employees.

Council member Victor Hernandez, after viewing the video at the request of the City Manager, James Loomis, publicly called for an investigation of the actions depicted in the video, as he should have. He is an elected representative of the people and that’s what they hired him to do.

LPPA President Jeremy Jones doesn’t agree, and falsely accused Hernandez of committing a felony in releasing a statement on the matter. Jones feels that Hernandez may have violated “Article [sic] 39.06” of the Texas Penal Code, Misuse of Official Information, which is a third degree felony. Jones is full of crap, what Hernandez did comes no where near meeting the elements of the offense for Section 39.06. To be charged with that crime, Hernandez would have to have intended that harm come to any person (presumably an officer who participated in the apparent beating), have disclosed information not available to the public, for a non-governmental purpose, and the information had to be exempt from disclosure under the open records act.

Did you notice that last part? The information had to be exempt from disclosure? It is not enough that the information had not yet been disclosed, it must be information that the government cannot disclose. The video isn’t it, because the local TV station obtained the video the next day, under the open records act.

Oops.

This was a straight attempt to intimidate an elected official who was concerned about police beating a suspect without justification. Period.

Perhaps Jones should have looked at the Obstruction or Retaliation statute, § 36.06, Tex. Pen. Code. It seems like threatening a public servant with a bunch of false charges, on account of their duties to represent the people, is a felony. Jones should be aware of that, police use it all the time.

Maybe someone should talk to Jones about his actions.

my favorite part is when he kicks the guy, sitting on the ground in the face, and yells get on the ground while he's on top of him beating him in the face.

Newport Tennessee Teen Arrested for Calling Cops Pigs

William G. Reece, 19, was arrested near Newport, Tennessee on Friday August 14, 2015 after opening his door and yelling “PIGS!” at Newport and State Patrol officers who were just finishing up a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 131 near a business called Zoomers.

Newport PD officer Derek Wright, who allegedly swore an oath to uphold the United States Constitution, then followed after the car Reece was in, and after pulling it over, arrested the teen for disorderly conduct and booked him into jail.

He bonded out for $500.00 later the same day.

The reasoning given for the charge was- “…due to creating a hazardous condition that served no legitimate purpose.”

Prominent Attorney and Three Cops Arrested in California Murder Case

Three California Highway Patrol officers, a defense attorney, and five others have been arrested in connection to the 2012 murder of a California man who, the New York Post reports, officials said was suspected of having been stealing the attorney’s antiques.

At a news conference on Friday in Modesto, California, law enforcement officials said that nine people were arrested altogether. All either participated in the killing of 26-year-old Korey Kauffman—who was reported missing in April 2012 and whose body was found in August 2013—or helped cover it up, officials said.

According to investigators with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, the killing was orchestrated by prominent Modesto attorney Frank Carson, who believed that Kauffman was stealing antiques from storage containers he owned. The Post reports that Kauffman was kidnapped and killed on his way to steal from Carson, according to a police court filing.

Cops Caught On TapeDeputy Arrested For Third-Degree Assault, Child Abuse And Domestic Violence - Cops Caught On Tape

37-year-old Jacob Ediger, a Deputy with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, was arrested for third-degree assault, child abuse, and domestic violence.

Deputy Ediger is accused of hitting his wife of 13 years with a door and then knocking her and their 9-month-old baby off a porch. He was formally charged Thursday with misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault causing injury and child abuse.

According to the police report, Deputy Ediger was arguing with his wife inside of their house. In an attempt to move away from him and deescalate the potentially dangerous situation, the wife, who was cradling their 9-month-old baby, stepped outside of the house onto the front porch.

Instead of just letting things settle down, Deputy Ediger tried to continue the argument outside, but his wife blocked the screen door, which prevented him from opening it. Those actions enraged the Deputy to the point he shoved the door open, sending his wife and baby flying backwards off the porch, where they landed in a flower and rock garden.

Deputy Ediger admitted to police that the two had been arguing, but claims it was all an accident. In his twisted version of events, he was merely trying to go outside to console the crying infant, when he opened the door, which accidentally hit his wife and baby.

The Sheriff’s Office has put Deputy Ediger on paid vacation, err, I mean “Administrative Leave” while the investigation is being conducted. His bond was set at $1,250. He is next due in court Aug. 20.

In a press release, Sheriff Justin Smith said he is disappointed, but insists that sheriff’s office employees “will be held to the highest of standards and will be held accountable for any alleged violations of the law.”

Police Delete Video Of Beating, Threaten Witness With Arrest

Levi Frasier was merely an innocent bystander when he saw something that caught his attention – another instance of police brutality occurring right in front of him. He then decided to take out his tablet and record their barbaric actions.

Frasier witnessed Officer Charles “Chris” Jones IV of the Denver Police Department punching an unarmed man in the face and head several times. That man, David Nelson Flores, was left bloodied and bruised.

If that wasn’t brutal enough, one of the officers decided to trip an obviously pregnant woman, causing her to fall to the ground on her stomach. The woman, Mayra Lazos-Guerrero, was 7 ½ months pregnant at the time.

Frasier felt he was doing his duty to record the brutality unfolding. However, what he didn’t consider as a possibility, was that the police would target him for exercising his 1st Amendment rights by recording them.

According to a Federal lawsuit filed by Frasier, Officer Christopher Evans, along with other officers, surrounded him and threatened him with arrest, unless he ‘voluntarily’ turned over the video evidence of the beatings. At first, Frasier told the officers that he didn’t record any video, fearing they would delete the evidence if he admitted to having it.

It was then that one of the officers told Frasier that he couldn’t leave until he ‘voluntarily’ gave a witness statement about what he witnessed, and that “we can do this the easy way or the hard way”. Fearing for his safety, Frasier gave a witness statement, in writing, stating that he did not witness the beating or any other inappropriate actions committed by the Denver police.

Shortly after providing the statement, the officers took Frasier’s tablet anyway, deleting the video. However, Frasier’s tablet automatically backed up all photos/videos to the cloud, so the officer’s illegal actions were fruitless. Frasier later gave the video to a local television station, Fox 31.

Denver police released a statement concerning their officers’ actions that day. But, to the surprise of many, the Police Department defended the illegal actions of their officers, and decided to go after the local Fox affiliate for airing the video footage and corresponding news story. Even more concerning, they publicly released Frasier’s criminal records, as if somehow that negated what the officers were caught doing on video.

The Denver Police Department believes that Chris Halsne and Fox 31 have acted intentionally and irresponsibly in reporting this incident. We are issuing this press release to clarify facts, which were minimized, omitted, or misconstrued. Transparency is critical to DPD’s Chief White, and it is essential to maintaining a positive and trusting relationship with our community.

Police officer accused of molesting 2-year-old faces 11 more charges in Polk | TheLedger.com

BARTOW — A police officer who was arrested in March on charges of molesting a 2-year-old girl is now facing 11 additional charges involving possession of child pornography.

Joshua David Smith, 32, a police officer in Oakland, a small community west of Orlando, was originally arrested after an undercover FBI agent from outside of Florida received a message stating "no limit perv dad here. Looking for someone like minded to talk with. HMU (hit me up) if interested," according to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit.

From there, the message writer went on to describe in detail sex acts he performed on the 2-year-old victim.

About eight hours later, Polk deputies and the FBI arrested Smith at his Lakeland home.

During the online correspondence with the undercover FBI agent, Sheriff Grady Judd said, Smith is accused of sending three sexually explicit photos of the girl to prove that he had "access to a live child.”

When law enforcement arrived at the house, according to reports, the girl was found wearing some of the same clothing as in the images and locations in the house matched those in the photos.

Since his arrest, Smith has been held in the Polk County Jail without bail, charged with directing or promoting the sexual performance of a child, possession of a photo depicting a sexual performance of a child and lewd molestation.

The new charges were added after a forensic examination of his emails and cellphone turned up more child porn, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Profile Leads To Conviction In La. Serial Rape Cases - tribunedigital-dailypress

Lafayette, La., police had used all the conventional approaches in probing a serial rapist, including a task force comprised of investigators from five different agencies.

The attacks started in the early 1980s and continued through 1995, remembers Lafayette Police Lt. Jim Craft.

"We could positively link six of the cases, and suspected the same person in seven to nine others," Craft said.

Like the East End cases, the attacks were sporadic.

"Sometimes, we would go two to three years without one," Craft said. "Then they'd come all at once."

The FBI studied the cases for a psychological profile that suggested the serial rapist worked in law enforcement as a security guard, police officer or deputy.

After the task force disbanded in 1998 with no arrests, Craft said his police chief showed him a copy of an article about geographic profiling in Police Chief magazine.

The department invited Kim Rossmo to Lafayette, in hopes a geographic profile might narrow the field of possible suspects.

"We had no preconceived ideas about profiling," said Craft. "We thought if it could help us, fine. If not, at least we gave it a shot. We didn't want to leave any stone unturned."

Rossmo used the background of the attacks to establish a perimeter, or boundaries within an area the rapist might live or work, that - when placed over a map pinpointing the crime sites - formed a triangle.

As the investigation progressed, an anonymous caller named a sheriff's deputy as the rapist.

Investigators took saliva from the deputy's cigarette butt and submitted the specimen to a lab for DNA analysis. Craft said the DNA matched evidence from six rape cases.

When police arrested the deputy, Randy Comeaux, on Jan. 18, 1999, he was living just a block outside of the triangle.

But during the serial rapes, he resided precisely in the middle of the triangle, Craft said.

Comeaux is serving six life sentences for the six rapes.

Washington police officer resigns, gets probation for tipping off prostitute | Local News - WTAE Home

A southwestern Pennsylvania police officer has resigned and been sentenced to two years' probation for tipping off a woman he used to date about a prostitution sting.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter says 40-year-old John Rush resigned from the Washington, Pennsylvania police on Thursday, a day after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice and hindering prosecution.

Rush pleaded guilty in Washington County's veterans court, a program reserved for those suffering from various problems due to military service. Rush served three tours with the Air Force in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His attorney and District Attorney Eugene Vittone say the help and probation Rush will receive through the court were more appropriate than jail time.

Rush texted the 31-year-old woman, who's awaiting trial on prostitution charges, to warn her of an undercover sting by DA's office last year.

LAPD holds pregnant woman at gunpoint after mistaking her truck for murder suspect's vehicle

Pregnant Los Angeles woman found herself in police crosshairs briefly on Thursday after she was mistakenly pulled over during a murder investigation, KNBC-TV reported.

Helicopter footage shows the woman, who is reportedly expected to give birth next week, being held at gunpoint by several officers. An unidentified man who was riding in the passenger seat can be seen with his hands up standing alongside the woman’s truck. Two small children were allegedly inside at the time of the mistaken stop.

Police said they pulled the woman over because her truck matched the description of a vehicle belonging to a suspect in a murder case. They ordered her to get out with their guns drawn, they said, because her windows were tinted.

The woman was released after officers realized their mistake.

interesting read/video:

It's a long story of the VICTIM of a vehicle damage ends up with fat, power-hungry cop trying to intimidate the VICTIM. So much for "diffusing" situations, this is a PERFECT example of cops doing everything they can to ESCALATE a situation so they can exercise their "power".
So last night we went to the Greyhound races and when we came out, we found a big Suburban had crossed 1.5 feet over the parking line, bumped the bumper of our (mint condition) 1993 Mercedes 500SL. Caused a little damage, but a little damage on that car is $500 or more...
We need to get a report, and I but figuring we were at a casino/racetrack, we'd get Security to do a report and be on our way. To my chagrin, 2 County Sheriff's show up in addition to the security. They explain that Security will make the report, so I said, "OK" and started dealing with security.
The Sheriff ran the plate and got a name, Security paged in the building and the perp came out. First thing out of his mouth was, "I didn't hit anyone's car, he wasn't even here when I got here". (which was a lie, and I have dashcam footage showing me pulling into the parking spot with a different vehicle there).
I started doing my business with Security, gave him my License and Registration (voluntarily, I probably didn't even need to do it). I explained to the security guy about the DashCam footage. He asks me to get it so he can get a screen capture. I go into my car to work on that, and the fat cop says, "do you have your insurance?" and I say, "yes, it's on my mobile app but I'm dealing with the security officer's request right now. And I go about my business (messing with the dash cam trying to figure out how to do Playback).
A minute later, cop says, "do you have your insurance", I yelled from inside the car (not yelling as in mad, but so he could hear me), "It's on my phone I'll show it to him when I"m done".
Cop: "You do NOT yell at me, you'll come out now and show the insurance or you're going to jail". Aww, it seems I've butt-hurt the poor, fat-ass pig. I didn't respect his author-uh-tie, I guess.
Remember, MY CAR was the one that was hit. I was the one that called for assistance... there's NO reason (nor cause) to threaten someone with "going to jail" for not showing insurance (especially on private property and especially when the car was parked).
I said, "officer, you're not going to intimidate me, I know my rights and you can't take me to jail for not showing you insurance, especially since you aren't even the one doing the investigation." I told him, "ok, but now I think it's time to start recording this", so I opened Bambuser and started recording (unknown to me, it didn't start at that time).
At that time, he ACTUALLY PULLED OUT HIS HANDCUFFS, which I kinda looked at him and giggled and rolled my eyes. He again said, "You're going to jail if you don't show me your insurance RIGHT NOW".
I thought it was recording in the background as I opened my Geico app and flashed it towards him, saying, "here it is, I'll take it to the security officer", and he reached out and GRABBED the phone. I held on tight and said, "this is my private property and you do not have the right to take it away". He just held on to it, not moving, and so did I... we locked eyes and I didn't move or say a word. After what seemed to be an eternity, he let go. I walked over and showed the insurance to the security guard.
At that time, the perp's wife (or lady friend) walked up and asked what was going on, the driver said, "this guy claims we hit his car but he wasn't even here when we got here".. She says, "yeah we've been here at least 45 minutes!". This was in clear earshot of the 2 cops, who were listening at the time... I said, "officers, as I told you before, I've been here for almost 6 hours so could you please make sure you include her '45 minute' statement in the report?", to which they both said, "oh, we didn't hear her say anything about 45 minutes" (a clear and obvious lie). At the time, I thought I was recording, so I said, "well I got it on video so no big deal".
Fast forward a few minutes, I realize my phone isn't recording so I turn it on. 3 minutes later, now the 2 cops are over being all buddy-buddy with the perps. So I walk over.
This is where the Bambuser Video starts to get good (start at 3 minutes if link doesn't take you there). Everything before 3 minutes is just videoing the scene, nothing interesting so just skip it.
This is your first view of the fat-ass male cop (in the burgandy shirt) and the fat, old lady cop. I'd suggest reading this first because the audio isn't great and also I don't want you wasting time watching stuff that's not pertinent.
What you will hear is the male perp saying, "are you videoing", and I say "yes" and he says, "go right ahead". I say "I will". Then a short time later, the lady sees me and starts throwing a fit, now the guy gets mad and walks over the the officer (at my urging). Notice at 3:55, the perp PURPOSELY hits his hand on my rearview mirror!
Unsurprisingly, I get the officer again trying to intimidate me (this is the good part of the video, around 4:05), he "pushes" me (not touching me, but by walking towards me) toward my vehicle. At 4:14 he AGAIN attempts to grab my phone, and I say, "Don't touch my phone". He then says, "go over there", and I just say, "No"... threatens to take me to jail for "disorderly conduct", and of course he lies to me saying, "they have a right to privacy".
At 5:15, I just love the "you just don't know" as he walks away... I say, "Oh I know"...
A point here, had I actually done anything illegal, this fat pig would have arrested me, or at the very least, he actually WOULD HAVE TRESPASSED ME. So at that point, I was 100% sure I had done nothing wrong, and that he was simply swinging his tiny pig-like balls around, trying to intimidate me.
What he didn't know is that (1) my business is in photo and video and I'm EXTREMELY well-versed in the associated laws, and (2) I've been specifically studying up on this type of situation so I could make videos to put on this Subreddit. :)
IMO, I put him in his place pretty well. Sorry about the finger in front of the lens, but you can tell he was RIGHT UP AGAINST ME, almost touching me, and I'm sure he was just waiting for me to move forward 1 inch so he could arrest me for "assault".
After we have the little discussion about how I haven't done anything wrong, the video is done (the rest is boring, no reason to watch). The only interesting thing is he stood there right next to me, trying to "intimidate" me for FOUR FULL MINUTES.
Now, obviously, I know he could have actually arrested me, and I would have sat in jail overnight or until Monday, and then they'd release me with no charges... so I didn't REALLY push this officer (probably a smart thing). But, I think I did a pretty good job standing up for my rights.
Oh, did I mention, they came TO ASSIST ME, and then THIS stuff happened?

TL;DR: Car got hit in parking lot, cop threatens to "take you to jail" if I don't produce my insurance card, then I started doing video of the perps, who threw a fit about "privacy", cop again threatens to take me to jail - I put him in his place (on video).

Agreed, but who cares? If someone says "nice teeth" to me sarcastically, or calls me an asshole, I'm not allowed to physically hold them against their will just because they hurt my feelings. State trooper suspended, reassigned after Troubleshooter investi - wave3.com-Louisville News, Weather & Sports

A Kentucky state trooper has been suspended and reassigned as a result of a WAVE 3 News investigation.

Last year, the WAVE 3 Troubleshooter reported that Trooper Mitch Harris collected money for overtime he didn't appear to be working. Now, an internal affairs investigation is complete.

The trooper suffered serious consequences but did not lose his job over the incident. He also maintained his rank, but he won't have the chance to work any more of the speed patrols that earned him tens of thousands of dollars in overtime. Undercover video raised questions about whether Harris was really showing up for those shifts.

[MORE: Previous Troubleshooter investigative reports]

Harris is still on the force but off the road. He's been reassigned to the KSP Supply Branch, according to records obtained by WAVE 3 News.

Instead of handing out tickets, Harris is now handing out uniforms and equipment in a purely administrative role.

Harris wouldn't answer questions about the video, taken during three consecutive shifts last year. In the footage, Harris can be seen taking care of his business, like taking out his garbage while on duty. But Harris was not doing the police business of patrolling the I-64 work zone for which he was collecting overtime.

Those overtime shifts are paid for primarily by tax dollars and typically requested by troopers who want extra cash.

A review of work zone activity log sheets Harris had to turn in to collect the OT revealed he was paid to patrol the work zone on 253 different days dating back to 2012. Fourteen times he didn't write a single ticket. Records showed one 10-hour shift in which Harris didn't issue as much as a warning.

In all, records showed Harris collected $61,629 dollars of work zone OT, more than a year's salary.

Cops Caught On TapeAPD Officer Threatens People With Taser ? Only He Was Off Duty, And Not In Atlanta

Officer Eric Whipple is making news after breaking up a fight and threatening people with his gun, though he claims it was his taser. The only problem for the Atlanta Police Department officer is that he was 40+ miles outside of the city limits, and he wasn’t on duty at the time.

To make matters worse, Officer Whipple was in civilian attire at the time – wearing a black shirt, jeans, and a ball cap when he pulled out his service weapon/taser, and began barking orders.

...

Responding in true cop-logic fashion, Officer Whipple told the officers that “Legally, I’m a police officer in Georgia”. However, the Newman officers quickly reminded him that he’s not deputized as a police officer in their town.

So now it appears that, not only do we have to worry about rogue cops inside their own jurisdiction, but now we have to watch our backs from ‘cowboy cops’ in places where legally, they have no ‘authority’.

this rapist likes women instead of little boys.

Ohio State Trooper Bryan Lee pled guilty last year in Federal court to unreasonable search and seizure and cyber stalking. During his trial, he admitted to tearing up tickets in exchange for sex and for violating women while they were in handcuffs.

According to court documents, Trooper Lee admitted to violating the civil rights of four female victims by coercing them to engage in sexual acts. The women were either under arrest, handcuffed, or both. He also admitted to tearing up tickets in exchange for sexual favors.

However, his actions didn’t stop there. Trooper Lee also admitted to harassing and threatening the victims by sending threatening text messages and posting messages on their personal social media accounts.

In the newly released video, Trooper Lee’s dash cam shows an encounter with one of his victims. He had pulled over this woman because of a traffic violation. The intoxicated women begin flirting with the trooper, with the passenger offering to show Lee her breasts. Trooper Lee said “We can play that game once I turn the camera off.”

Lee eventually cuts off the video and the audio, but not before the dash cam shows the passenger get into the patrol car with Trooper Lee. At this point, he allowed the driver of the car to leave, but kept the passenger in his car and drove her to a nearby street. There, he made sexual comments and advancements, telling the woman that he could still give her friend a ticket if she didn't 'cooperate'. According to that woman, she allowed Trooper Lee to photograph his hand on her breast.

Trooper Lee was also brazen enough to make postings on Craigslist. One of those postings stated, “'I am in Law Enforcement so if the idea of traffic stop sex sounds good let me know.Lee was sentenced to five years in federal prison in April for violating the women's civil rights.

Charns: Forms show Durham police officer shot himself | News & Observer

“They knew the officer had his own weapon in his hand when it went off,” Charns said. “From the very beginning this was a case that shouldn’t have been prosecuted.”

A jury last week acquitted Riley of all but a robbery charge tied to the Dec. 18, 2012, traffic stop that left Officer Kelly Stewart with a gunshot wound to his right thigh.

...

Charns released evidence that wasn’t introduced at trial, including a gunshot residue analysis information form filled out by Durham Police Department employee “M. Coble” about an hour and a half after the shooting.

The form included handwritten information about Stewart’s activity between the time of the shooting and the time of the gunshot residue collection, which stated the officer and suspect struggled in a car, with “1 shot fired by officer.”

The News & Observer provided a copy of the form to Police Department spokesman Wil Glenn on Friday afternoon. Glenn referred a reporter Monday to testimony during the trial. The form wasn’t introduced during the trial but was provided to Charns beforehand as part of the discovery process, in which the defense receives documents such police reports, statements and other evidence.

...

After the jury gave its verdict, Charns made a motion for sanctions against the prosecution citing that and other incidents, including not being given access to workers compensation documents that Charns said described the shooting as an accident.

Jury awards Huntington Beach man $28,000 after ruling that police unlawfully entered his home - The Orange County Register

Two Huntington Beach police officers violated a man’s civil rights when they walked into his home without a search warrant while investigating a noise complaint, a jury has ruled.

An Orange County Superior Court jury deliberated for less than a day before awarding $28,000 in compensatory damages to Huntington Beach resident Roger Mielke on Friday, said his attorney, Mark Eisenberg.

The jury ruled 11-1 that Officers Bernard Atkins and Jason McFall violated Mielke’s rights under the Fourth Amendment, which prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures, when they entered his home around 2 a.m. in August 2013 while investigating complaints of a loud radio.

Jurors, however, unanimously found that the officers did not act with malice, fraud or oppression, so Mielke was not awarded punitive damages, his attorney said. The city of Huntington Beach is also responsible for upward of $350,000 in attorney’s fees, Eisenberg said.

By law, police can enter private property without a warrant if someone’s safety is being threatened, a suspect is escaping or important evidence is being destroyed, situations known collectively as exigent circumstances. But there were no such circumstances in this case, Eisenberg said.

The officers maintained that they were in the 7700 block of Garfield Avenue conducting their investigation when they entered Mielke’s home for a “welfare check” after observing that his front door was open, Eisenberg said.

According to court documents, Mielke said he was sleeping in his bedroom when his dog, a blue nose pit bull, began growling. Mielke walked out of his bedroom and was confronted by the officers, who were in his living room.

Mielke said the officers told him to “get your dog under control” or else they would shoot the animal.

When Mielke asked the officers why they were in his home, the officers told him they were investigating a complaint of loud music, according to court documents. Mielke responded that he had been sleeping but was not playing music.

After about two minutes, the officers left without explanation, Eisenberg said.

“After hearing the evidence, the jury concluded the entry was not a welfare check but part of their noise investigation,” Eisenberg said. “Once inside and confronted by my client, they failed to ask any of the standard welfare check questions.”

Eisenberg said this is not the first time Huntington Beach officers have been accused of violating constitutional rights while investigating loud noise complaints under city municipal code.

In 2013, the city paid $150,000 to settle a lawsuit accusing two police officers of wrongfully bursting into a home and arresting a man and a woman under the city’s noise ordinance.

The couple, Eric Anderson and Nadsya Mohoff, who were also represented by Eisenberg, were arrested after an officer said he heard noise from a clock radio. Charges against the two were dismissed.

During depositions in that case, police admitted that Huntington Beach officers were issuing $250 noise citations without using a meter to measure the sound.

Authorities later said the settlement was not an admission of wrongdoing, but an attempt to curb legal costs.

The State Police have no right to force anyone to open their window or order someone out of the car for no reason. The driver held up the Fair DUI Flyer and showed his drivers licence to the trooper. In NY that is not grounds to pull someone out of the car. The troopers probably cause is the driver being "deceitful". That is what NY state police think of people exercising their rights. Good job to the driver for standing up for himself and being prepared. Know your rights and don't fear the police. Expose their corrupt ways! Always film the police, even if it is for someone else.

I do not condone drunk driving, but I am more upset with the usurpation of our Constitutional rights by law enforcement agencies. The officers manning this dui checkpoint in LA could have done a better job at keeping drunk drivers off the road by patrolling the streets rather than by sitting in one spot and relying on intimidation to have drivers self-incriminate and make for an easy deuce conviction. The 4th Amendment is pretty clear about guaranteeing security for individuals unless there is probable cause or reasonable suspicion for a peace officer to arrest or detain them. I, along with countless other innocent individuals, were illegally detained with no cause and the only excuse the officers could come up with was that the supreme court has authorized dui checkpoints. I want to add that the officer at the checkpoint was very courteous and professional and this in no way is a negative comment on him or his performance of duties assigned to him, but rather about the assignment itself.

Two former Ga. police officers charged with murder for stun gun death of handcuffed man - The Washington Post

Two former police officers from East Point, Ga. have been indicted on charges of murder in the April 2014 death of Gregory Towns, a 24-year-old unarmed black man who died after a stun gun was used on him while he was in handcuffs.

Former Cpl. Howard Weems and Sgt. Marcus Eberhart were indicted on charges of felony murder, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and several charges of violation of an oath by a public officer.

While the death was being investigated, Eberhart resigned and Weems was fired by the department, which has a policy prohibiting officers from using stun guns.

Gregory Towns (provided by the Towns family) Gregory Towns (provided by the Towns family)
The two officers approached Towns as he left his mother’s apartment complex after allegedly having been involved in a domestic dispute. Towns ran, but was caught by officers after he tripped over a tree branch and fell. According to his family attorney, Towns then struggled to walk, tired from having fled. The officers handcuffed him and used a stun gun to prod him and keep him moving forward, the attorney said.

“He was handcuffed behind his back when this happened, he didn’t have a weapon, he wasn’t the fighting the officers. He was tasered because he was tired and not getting up fast enough,” said Chris Stewart, the Georgia attorney who has been working with Towns’s family. “It’s not just against the law, it’s inhumane. Whistleblower Michigan Cop Files Suit Over Allegations of Fellow Cops Having Sex With Teen Ride-Along - PINAC

A popular Michigan police officer is suing his chief, claiming he was demoted for questioning the mishandling of an investigation about two fellow officers who allegedly had sex with a 16-year-old runaway girl.

Saline police officer Don Lupi had “expressed concerns to persons in city government about two fellow officers allegedly having sexual relations with a minor female who was known to the department as a runaway (and would accompany officers on ‘ride-alongs), and her friend,” the lawsuit states.

Lupi, an 18-year veteran of the department, spending 13 years as a detective, faced severe backlash after reporting the misconduct, especially since one of the parties was a sergeant and therefore his superior.

“Be careful of Lupi, he’s a snake and a rat,” the suit asserts that the sergeant told other officers. “Make a mistake and he keeps it on file.”

The rare good cop had also reported his coworkers in the past for falsifying their time sheets.

In 2013, the detective applied for a promotion to sergeant, and believes that he was passed over due to his complaints in the past, he was also demoted to road patrol in May.

Lupi has good reason to believe that the demotion was a direct penalty for his whistleblowing, as it came directly after he met with Chief Larry Hrinik and City Manager Todd Campbell about the complaints.

Following the meeting, where Lupi went into detail regarding his concerns, Hrinik reportedly said, “Are you done? Starting next rotation you are back on the road.”

Despite the fact that Lupi has been involved in every major Saline police investigation, MLive reported, and seemingly has an outstanding record, police departments seem to place higher value on covering up one another’s crimes than being decent human beings, like a mob.

City officials have not commented on the suit except to say the alleged sex scandal was investigated and unfounded.

it's all about money--police are basically hired thugs.

taxes on cigarettes are $6 a pack. a pack costs $14.

when someone buys them in another state and then sells them without taxes, the state arms up its police force, raids your house, and shoots your dog--you then die of a heart attack.

it has nothing to do with protecting you from cancer. it's all about money.

you can see NY makes a shit fuck ton of cash from getting people addicted to a product, them requiring them to pay a fuck ton of money to buy the product.

even when cigarette smokers are at their lowest numbers ever, tax income is at the highest.

solving murders and preventing violent crimes doesnt get your city/department more funding to hire more police to get more funding, so why bother with it?

arresting pot smokers (war on drugs grant money) and creating monopolies and price-fixes protected by the legal use of deadly force does (practices that are illegal for everyone else).

I must have misremembered something - but I was sure that I had first seen video of then messing with him inside the store and bothering him about having been busted previous. Only a couple of times have I seen media to mention that he had not been selling cigarettes at that time - not that they witnessed.

the police were not there to arrest him for cigarettes.

they were called to the scene about a fight. two undercover officers even witnessed the fight and saw him break up the fight.

So far as I'm aware: they used the cigarettes as an excuse for probable cause to arrest him (because they knew who he was). It's unclear if he even had cigarettes on him at the time. They police had absolutely zero RAS to detain him in teh first place, and they certainly had no PC to arrest him. The police saw someone they knew, and tried to arrest him for no reason. they didnt catch him selling cigarettes, he was just there.

the media likes to start his timeline with he was being "arrested for cigarettes", and leave out all events leading up to his arrest.

That's like starting the Freddie Gray story that he was being arrested for a knife...that they only found after stopping him for unknown reasons, after being arrested.

Everyone likes to ignore that part of the story; I think it's most imporant.

two cops walk into a bar...they go fishing*.

*they actually start handcuffing and detaining people that buy beer, because they need to see if a crime may have been committed without any reasonable suspicion that a crime was even committed.
