Default Mosque/ "Community Center" near WTC

What are your thoughts on this, from a constitutional standpoint it is acceptable; but is the wrong move in my opinion. Sort of like--the KKK building its headquarters near a NAACP or Holocaust center/memorial.

Discuss...

Ya because Muslims are a radical hate group like the KKK.

You fail.

No, not stating that Muslims are a radical hate group, however, it was Muslims who ran two planes into the WTC and killed over 3,000 American men, women, and children. Why is it they want a Mosque so close to where this happened, or am I the only one who finds this odd?

Yeah, because a small percentage of people in that faith are extremists, that instantly makes them all want to blow up America Seriously?

I don't see any problem with the whole thing whatsoever. People need to grow up.

Christians have led blood-thirsty wars on other religions, should we ban them from building any more tax evasion centers..err..."churches" in America?

How many Muslims died when the WTC came down? Maybe Muslims are as outraged by the tragedy as everyone else?

There are American Muslims too. A room full of radicals doesn't make every member of a religion a potential terrorist. Just like not every redneck moron is going to blow up a government building with a daycare in it.

Scapegoating leads to things like genocide.

The mosque should be built on the strip.

Because Bernie Madoff was Jewish, no Temples should be built near Wall Street, because it might offend his victims.

Because the mad stabber was raised Greek Orthodox in Israel, and is of Arab heritage. No Greek restaurants, Jewish Temples or Arab run convenience stores should be located in Flint Michigan.

Because John Ensign was who he was, no copies of the "Bob and Carol Ted and Alice" DVD should be rented in VEGAS.

Hitler was a Christian, and so am I. It doesn't mean I want to burn up a bunch of Jews. The scary part is the Muslim religion is the fastest growing religion in the world. Does that mean that someday the whole world will be a bunch of terrorists? Then what? Maybe in America terrorists will feel discriminated and they'll march for rights too...

Just food for thought...

Tears of Jihad

http://www.politicalislam.com/...ages/tears-of-jihad/ , accessed 16 August 2010

These figures are a rough estimate of the death of non-Muslims by the political act of jihad.

Africa

Thomas Sowell [Thomas Sowell, Race and Culture, BasicBooks, 1994, p. 188] estimates that 11 million slaves were shipped across the Atlantic and 14 million were sent to the Islamic nations of North Africa and the Middle East. For every slave captured many others died. Estimates of this collateral damage vary. The renowned missionary David Livingstone estimated that for every slave who reached a plantation, five others were killed in the initial raid or died of illness and privation on the forced march.[Woman’s Presbyterian Board of Missions, David Livingstone, p. 62, 1888] Those who were left behind were the very young, the weak, the sick and the old. These soon died since the main providers had been killed or enslaved. So, for 25 million slaves delivered to the market, we have an estimated death of about 120 million people. Islam ran the wholesale slave trade in Africa.

120 million Africans

Christians

The number of Christians martyred by Islam is 9 million [David B. Barrett, Todd M. Johnson, World Christian Trends AD 30-AD 2200, William Carey Library, 2001, p. 230, table 4-10] . A rough estimate by Raphael Moore in History of Asia Minor is that another 50 million died in wars by jihad. So counting the million African Christians killed in the 20th century we have:

60 million Christians

Hindus

Koenard Elst in Negationism in India gives an estimate of 80 million Hindus killed in the total jihad against India. [Koenard Elst, Negationism in India, Voice of India, New Delhi, 2002, pg. 34.] The country of India today is only half the size of ancient India, due to jihad. The mountains near India are called the Hindu Kush, meaning the “funeral pyre of the Hindus.”

80 million Hindus

Buddhists

Buddhists do not keep up with the history of war. Keep in mind that in jihad only Christians and Jews were allowed to survive as dhimmis (servants to Islam); everyone else had to convert or die. Jihad killed the Buddhists in Turkey, Afghanistan, along the Silk Route, and in India. The total is roughly 10 million. [David B. Barrett, Todd M. Johnson, World Christian Trends AD 30-AD 2200, William Carey Library, 2001, p. 230, table 4-1.]

10 million Buddhists

Jews

Oddly enough there were not enough Jews killed in jihad to significantly affect the totals of the Great Annihilation. The jihad in Arabia was 100 percent effective, but the numbers were in the thousands, not millions. After that, the Jews submitted and became the dhimmis (servants and second class citizens) of Islam and did not have geographic political power.

This gives a rough estimate of 270 million killed by jihad.

"Right to keep and bear arms" - yea that's not really clear, we should have a bunch of high profile Supreme Court cases spanning several decades to clear it up and then still put restrictions on what type of firearms I can own because clearly some are more dangerous than others.

"Freedom of Religion" - Yea sure build a Mosque near Ground Zero in NYC, Constitution says you can, no gray area there, have at it.

Before you all go attacking me that it's not the same thing, I'm not saying that they shouldn't BE ABLE to build the Mosque, I'm saying that they should probably think long and hard before they do.

A mosque is being built 2 blocks away from ground zero. I don't see what the big deal is. If it was actually going over ground zero, then I would have a big problem with that.

I don't think most people realize that small detail, that being said, now that it's such a big deal, it would be a wise move to reconsider the location on their part.

I am truly impressed by the responses in this thread so far.

Having said that, the real tragedy would be building a presidential library for Bush at or near ground zero.

I am with Dylan Avery on this issue.
On top of all that he uncovered, the fact that the majority of those who were interviewed on the street during the attacks - those who kept saying the critical key words to form an instant public opinion - were paid actors, was also revealed is really telling.

Immediately after the attack it was declared that Al Qaeda was behind it, and they were based in Afghanistan, and 40 billion dollars were authorized to go to war with Iraq to finish off what daddy Bush could not get done. WTF?

Some of the "terrorists" who were allegedly identified on camera before they boarded the planes even held press conferences months and years after the incident, saying they had never left their own countries.

It is the likes of Bush, the republican warmongers, people like the then new owners of the WTC who took out terror insurance way above the building's worth, etc, who should not be allowed near the site.

I am not a muslim, and I really dislike that culture for being a bunch of lazy dingdongs who have absolutely no idea of cause and effect, but unfair is unfair.

I think questions should be asked to those - including some very fine gentlemen from the then Bush administration - who came out looking pretty flush out of this whole ordeal.

Anything being built around that place would cause a stir up.

The United States of America was founded on, among others, the principal of freedom of worship. Anyone who thinks that a mosque shouldn't be built because it's a mosque is practicing the same form of "anti-Americanism" that we freed ourselves from during the American Revolutionary War. If you want to stop mosques from being built, go live in a country that prohibits them, because you're not an American.

Cool story. It has nothing to do with the freedom of religion, they absolutely have every right to build this mosque, this is not the argument. There are over 100 mosques in the surrounding area in NY, all people want is for the final location for this super mosque to be reconsidered out of respect for the 3000+ families who lost lives due to radical muslim extremists. Would they [the terrorists funding this mosque] win if taken to court, yes of course. Can they build it somewhere else, yes of course.

If this is about religious tolerance, then they need to tolerate the fact everyone honestly hates Muslims, know they contribute little to society and knows they are terrorists, yet we still put up with their bullshit and censor cartoon renderings of their fagatron deity on TV because we are afraid they will blow up Comedy Central and no one wants that.

I saw this movie. Mel Gibson and I think Julia Roberts were in it. He was wearing a baseball cap through most of it which was weird.
