Serious question about the above: Why isn't The Tribune shown? I mean, we literally came out and endorsed Johnson during the campaigns!

Hopefully, he'd experience some relief from his chronic constipation.

In all seriousness, though, I get why the Trib ranks below the Times and the Post. Not sure why ABC and NPR weren't featured, but again, not highly relevant.

I am curious to know, from Brainey, how he interprets that report. Eg: do you believe it demonstrates a negative bias against the president on the part of many / most new agencies?

I ask because, if you visit the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy, and root around a tad, you find this report: https://shorensteincenter.org/news-c...eral-election/

It reveals what I understand to be something close to the truth. That "We the Media", of which I am a member, doesn't have any specific agenda, we just understand that negative / controversial stories get more attention than fanboi copy.

From the article linked to above:

This particular paragraph, from about mid-report, sums it up rather nicely:

The real bias of the press is not that it’s liberal. Its bias is a decided preference for the negative. As scholar Michael Robinson noted, the news media seem to have taken some motherly advice and turned it upside down. “If you don’t have anything bad to say about someone, don’t say anything at all.” A New York Times columnist recently asserted that “the internet is distorting our collective grasp on the truth.” There’s a degree of accuracy in that claim but the problem goes beyond the internet and the talk shows. The mainstream press highlights what’s wrong with politics without also telling us what’s right.

I ain't gonna argue. The fact is that controversy generates audiences. We (the press) learned this lesson during the Reagan era, and the recipe continues to work.

I mean Trump would have to do something good or decent to get a favorable news report. The fact that he has not is on him, not the media. Don't blame the media for a President who is not up to the task of actually doing the job and doing it well.

Be a shitty president and get shitty headlines. Be a competent president, and get less shitty headlines.

I can only assume this is referencing the terrorist attack and it's way too soon for this ****. There are 26 dead and 74 injured. This is not the time for memes.

Not fake news: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Island

As a semi-native Floridian, I'm really tempted to go up there, remove whatever flag I find, drink whatever bottle I find, plant the flag of the Conch Republic, and leave behind a bottle of rum.

When will it be time for the media, politicians, and celebrities to stop lying to you about the Religion of Peace?

How about the sock puppets?

^ I wish I could in this sub-forum.

Al-Jazeera America, despite the controversial origins of its funding, was one of the last great broadcast media outlets dedicated to responsible journalism. Its passing is mourned.
