Default 190,745 miles!!! Depressing isnt it.

Ok, my 91 1.6 is at 190,745! should I boost it until it blows, should i build it to be stronger, or should i just buy a new motor?

( Only keep reading if you really mant to get deep into the story line)
You see today a giant freaking exhaust leak poped up on the exhaust manifold
took it to a muffler shop and they said they could fix it but it would open right up in a couple of weeks because of where it is on the Mani. So some friends think it will be a good idea to take the couple of turbo parts i have and just drop 400 more bucks and have a DIY greddy replica. All i need is used turbo, oil lines, and cheap FPR. I have
Begi mani & Dp
Supra 305's
E-man blue (no support tool yet)
man. Boost cont.
fmic (no piping)

Thats one choise others suggest Ebay OBX for 100 bucks until i get the proper turbo stuff.

Last guy thinks i should ask all the turbo guys to sell the stock exh. mani to me then deal with turbo stuff later. So you see where im at it really sucks!! What would you do?

I put a greddy kit on mine at 176k miles. Then i tracked it. Motor lasted until 205k miles, but when it went it was just a burnt valve due to a combo of too much timing/93 octane/at the track.

Go for it!

or buy another tired motor, and built it before your older one dies if you have the cash...that would save on downtime..

leakdown tests will tell you how strong it is....kinda/sorta

400-700 running nicely from the prices I've seen. I've seen some running that are cheap...or others that are messed up that aren't so cheap...pot luck.

I've got 232K on mine. I am in the midst of replacing the head gasket due to a coolant leak and having the head freshened up, but otherwise the car was running great with almost no oil loss. The cylinder walls look great and the compression was in the mid 170's and leakdown was under 3% across the board prior to tearing it down. If it has been cared for, you will be fine.

Sell all of that **** and buy a Megasquirt and some 460cc Rx7 injectors. **** piggybacks.

I'm stuffing 15psi into my motor and it's about to roll over to 134,000 miles. Boost it till it wont boost no more.

FWIW if you put the rods in the 1.6 you can reuse them on the 1.8 as well

Check with Soshin Motors, they just started selling on eBay over this past summer. I got my 1.6 that I'm tearing down and rebuilding from them for $450 + $125 shipping. THey're located in South Gate and North Hollywood and are a great company to work with. Be sure to tell them exactly what year engine you want because if you have a '91 they will ship you a short nose crank engine. It was a mistake on their part that I got a short nose and they said,"Just refuse the delivery and we'll send you the correct engine today."

A day later I had my non-shorty nose engine. I guess you could drive to South Gate and pick it up too, they allow for "local pick-up" which is what I was going to do. However for the cost of the fuel to drive there and the wear and tear on my sanity I just had it shipped.
