Battle of the T3 Chinachargers!
Hey everyone, the least logical person checking in again. (My big problem/question is in bold/underlined if you don't like to read or know the back story before giving advice.)
I am thinking about changing turbos to help my car out right now. I'm having problems with my boost controller (I think) and my car has become fairly undriveable (drifting, I know). It builds boost to 1bar slowly and steadily but then once it hits 1bar it jumps to 1.6bar almost instantly, and the wheel speed jumps up significantly making the car very uncontrollable. The car used to fairly quickly and steadily climb to 1.5bar once it was at the right RPM range. I haven't had AS much trouble with this turbo as I'm currently having but being that I would like a little better spool I have toyed with the idea of getting a different china charger before eventually replacing it with a gtx2871 late this fall.
Currently the turbo I'm running made 375whp @7500rpm and 300ftlbs @5800rpm with 1.5bar on a stock 1.6L, Currently I now have a built bottom end with 8.5:1 compression. I like the power and torque, and when I'm in the power it feels awesome but I fight a lot of lag and slow response. The car is a lot of work to keep drifting. The turbo I'm looking at would obviously be much more responsive and spool much sooner, however, I can't really afford to lose much power or torque. Ideally I'd still like to keep 320-350whp and have 2bar or less boost pressure. I don't know if the turbo is capable of making that much power still.

So you can see what kind of idiot you're dealing with:
SO, Can the smaller turbo make 320-350whp? or will I fall very short of my goal and waste my time and be frustrated? I know the useable power will be greater, but if I'm not going to come close in the power/torque of my current turbo I don't even want to waste my time and I will just deal with it until I can come across a GTX at the end of the fall. Ugh. Guys I know. I also know I'm dealing with a shitty Chinese turbo. You can see what I thought felt ok still wasn't ideal but the car feels worse than that now and I thought a smaller turbo would help but I didn't know if that turbo that brain runs would make the power that I'm looking for, over 300

No it won't. Or at least I highly doubt it. Even if it did you'd likely be pushing it way too hard and it would quickly die, as chinachargers often do when pushed past 20.
The reason your current turbo isn't performing same is again because of the turbo itself. A friend of mine used to rebuild his every so often because his chinacharger would only last a few months at over 20psi between rebuilds. But there's such a wild varience between different ones, and even different samples of the same turbo, that it's really impossible to accurately predict what will actually happen. Such is life with chinachargers.

no i ran a 50 trim t3. that's small, but appropriately sized for our chode of a motor--which is why i made 100 more rwtq than you at 3K, but 80hp less than you at 7K.

So if I run another 10psi over brain(and I'm running e85), I could feasibly get to the 320+ mark I'm looking for? I know at 25psi it's not got a long shelf life, but it's not really a street car and only gets used maybe once a month at the track, so that's not a huge deal.

I will be pushing mine to its limits here in a few weeks just for fun. E85, built 1.8 bottom end, and as much boost as it will take. I'll post results when it's done.
FWIW, I ran that exact same turbo you are thinking about buying. It literally lasted about 40 miles before oil was pouring out of the turbine housing. But I think that speaks more about the quality control of these things and not so much the quality of that turbo specifically. My Brain turbo has been great so far.

I think I got the best of what I wanted.I ended up with this:
T3 Super 60 Turbo 60 Compressor 63 Trim T3 Flange 5 Bolt Exhaust 350HP | eBay
T3 Super 60:
Intake: 3 inch
Inlet: 2 inch
Compressor trim:
Compressor Wheel diameter: 54.28 /71.32
Turbine Wheel diameter: 55.79 /63.36
Exhaust Trim: .63ar
Turbine flange type: T3 flange
The compressor wheel is almost identical to a 2871/3071 and the turbine is a little bigger than the gtx3071. I'm still downsizing in the compressor diameter by ~3mm and downsizing the turbine by almost 9mm in diameter. Hopefully this helps spool characteristics quite a big and still enables me to make the power I'm looking for. I will be upgrading to a GTX turbo in october but still haven't totally decided on size, at the moment looking at a 2871 but may go a little bit smaller than that.
Hopefully this thing is better than what I have now.

i said my turbo was small. it's probably not going to make 300rwhp.
a 71mm compressor wheel a t3 super 60. A Super 60 is a ~61 trim T3 wheel. A T3 wheel is ALWAYS 60mm.
