It is the fuel tank vent iI believe. Burns off vapors at high vac.

There is no vacuum there.

 

there's some vacuum there because of the air filter...maybe 1-2~hg.

i think its simply easier to put a check valve on the line, that or ripping it out.

yep. there's a line that goes straight to the top of the fuel tank and a line to the solenoid.

in high vacuum the solenoid opens and it sucks the fuel vapors into the IM to burn off.

 

But is it worth keeping?

Open your hood and look for the large black metal cylinder on the left side near the headlight motor.

 

It's worth keeping. Doesn't reduce performance with it intact, but will reduce gas odors and vapors. Just get a cheapie check valve at Autozone or somewhere.

Yes, that's normal.

 

can you take the whole canister out? if so isnt there a sensor going to it?

 

You can take the entire charcoal cannister system out. There is a map sensor, solenoid and the cannister itself. When you remove it all you just cap off the intake port and make sure that the vent goes somewhere besides in your engine bay afterwards. Don't want a fire hazard because you're venting the gas tank into your engine bay.

 

i just binned my charcoal can and ran the vent pipe into the subframe

 

What are people with standalones doing? There is no talk anywhere about controlling that solenoid with megasquirt or any other EMS.

 

I dont think the computer controls it. I would imagine it would be just a map sensor triggering a solenoid.
