I know the reroute is highly recommended for turbo track cars, but what about a street/autocross car? If it makes any difference, the runs are typically ~80sec, with 10-15 min in between. Gonna be shooting for ~200 WHP on a SR20 or similar turbo + mspnp2. Thanks!

A reroute is always nice if you can do it. However, if you care about auto-x classing you need to be aware that for most classes the reroute is not a permitted modification.

But if you're a non-stock turbo (i.e. not a MSM, you're already in a Modified class of some sort anyway).

IMHO - a reroute is a good thing to do even for a DD, not track-focused NA or NB.

 

Thanks for responses so far, looks like I should invest some bloody knuckles in one. To clarify I'm not concerned with classing, in fact the clubs I run with usually only classify race/street tire & novice.

 

Reroute spacer can be purchased from a mt.net member here: https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-par...r-mount-88962/ You will also need a kia waterneck, some hoses, and some bolts for the install. It's all well documented on the forum.

 

Bandit also sells a full kit with everything needed for the install!

 

What classes allow the reroute? I'm assuming that street and street touring do not allow it, but what about SSM or CSP?

CSP is a no.

SSM I believe allows it. Probably the Prepared classes as well.

Can confirm, CSP is a no go. SSM is definitely legal.

 

How is the kit on a 1.8 turbo car? Does the coolant line need to be shielded? Any modifications to make it work?

 

Also what about doing this on a stock car, before I go turbo? It looks like bandit's full kit doesn't include thermostat housing or EGR block off plates?

 

Most of these reroutes get installed on turbo cars, they work great. The reroute is on the intake side of the engine therefore its heat exposure is limited. Shielding of the heater hoses/brake master cylinder is a good idea, but that is true whether or not a reroute is installed. The heater hose location is the same with or without a reroute.

No reason not too, it will work as stock with the advantage of more even cooling across all 4 cylinders, most people just don't feel the need on an N/A car unless they are racing.
