Not sure how trying to run a mid mount intercooler is a joke.. Some of the responses are deff jokes but from looking around I've seen a half rad half intercooler which means you can run a smaller then full size rad which means a mid mount should work but legitimately forgot about it this was a waste of time for everyone

 

Dude you're grammar is so hard to comprehend what you are trying to say. Why would you change something that has been tried and trued? These are Miata's that run hot and need a full sized radiator. Unless you plan on drag racing the car and only running it for very short periods of time it will over heat. Sure *** boi Honda's do it, but we don't drive Honda's. They do radiator tucks, maybe you should do that too?

Actually I do custom fabricate most things on my car. Sooo try again? And yes, when you tear a car down to a bare tub you learn pretty much everything about it, including the cooling system. Go do you madtytejdmyo half radiator, let us know how it works...

It HAS been done to a miata.. the car ran a 4" intercooler and would overheat in traffic, the inter cooler was bringing the temps down however far above the ambient temps. In other words it was a horrible setup.

So far the only setups that work good on miatas are V mount or intercooler in front of the rad. Then, if you have overheating issues you run a fatter radiator.

 

The only 2 good ideas for mounting an intercooler is in the front of the nose like 99% of the people do, or do a completely custom v-mount setup. With the questions you are asking, doing a v-mount is definitely out of your skill range. So that leaves putting it out in front.

Hahaha jeeze! I never said I wanted to run a side by side setup. I did say I've seen one done on a miata before! I understand running a intercooler behind a rad will cause hot IATs, but like I said I'll be running meth won't this make a difference!?!?! But noones actually helping me just making fun, but it's okay I get it guysss.

 

There's no point in the intercooler at all in that case.
Just run a pipe straight to the IM and spray a ton of water to try to cool it down

 

Hah thank you! But the intercooler in this case is then completely useless? Thought it would help some, but I was told by a friend with a sr20 s14 to try and figure out how to run a mid mount like him or no intercooler. No intercooler sounded unsafe to me tho.

NO, running meth will not help your iat's if the intercooler is behind the radiator. The air coming out of the radiator will be roughly @ 190F. So your IAT's will never be below 190F. Repeat, your iat's will never be below about 190F.

Half radiators have been done before on Miatas. The one I know of was a dedicated race vehicle, was not boosted, had a coolant reroute, and had owners who knew what the F#@K they were doing. None of those factors applies to you, so don't do it. Unless you plan to keep us entertained with drunk posts about how you had to call your girlfriend at 1am to come pick you up cuz your car broke down again. Actually, plan to do that anyway.

If you're going to do an air/air intercooler, put it up front somewhere where it sees fresh air. If you're going to do an air/water intercooler, you can put the intercooler itself wherever you want, but put the radiator for that water in front. If you ziptie it to the back of the real radiator like I know you want to, then once again, your IAT's will never be below about 190F, and as I hope you understand by now, that is too hot.

I have a perfectly good tacoma I drive everyday. I'm prob gonna just go 100% meth no intercooler, that sounds like the best bet. Ill try and dig up the half rad half intercooler miata....

Laughing at you for being an imbecile is one thing, however laughing at your melted pistons pictures would be a lot funnier.

The half rad/ic was on the m.net forum, it looked cool as everything was neatly placed but was garbage as far as function went.

 

I didnt know as far as how well that smaller rad setup worked... thats why i was ASKING if anyone had any experience with that type of setup or the mid mount setup. Its almost impossible to ask a simple question without everyone getting all upset. Im not going to go and do something that clearly doesnt work... My friends with 240s run mid mount setups thats why i asked has anyone done one, cause i want one! People run their intercooler in different places thats why i was asking about any custom setups. So mid mount? clearly impossible from the responses im getting. In all seriousness thanks for the help..... you guys just have a weird way of going about it hahah.
