Did you get one Loki? I have not seen the GT China charger. Sleeve Bearings seem to be something the chinese understand well enough... not sure I would trust them with a ball bearing either!

OK, so on the 2871r, what trim? The maps look like the 48 is the best fit and the 52 would work but the 56 seems too big. Is that everyone elses thoughts?

Markp, what are the specs on your Ghettocharger?

I also looked at the maps using squirrel performances calculator and it looks like the T3 S60 may run out of steam on the top end. I don't know what the hell to do now? Damn, I sound like hustler, dont I?

Buy one of each GT, they are interchangeable. Sell the ones you don't like.

I was thinking about it, but I asked all the people that bought them on EBAY (took me a week or so cause you can only ask so many peolpe a day) and there were two responses total. A) I havent installed it yet or B) I installed it and it broke the second time I hit boost.

Surprisingly everything seemed good about these except for the bearings. Part of me wants to buy one then have Garrett replace the cartridge for whatever cheap price that is.

Thats losing out on a lot of cash. GT series turbos depreciate the moment they come out of the box. You can look on ebay to see that.

This is with guestimated data points for my car. Each dot represents engine rpms of 1000, 2500, 3150, 3800, 4650, 5500, 6350, and 7200.

I'd gamble it would take less than 15psi on your 1.8 to reach 30lb/min, however, you really need to think, will you ever want to run more than that....the 2560 will take you a bit further, however it drops off quickly, the 2871 has plenty more in it without even going below 70%

I think GT series turbos hold their value more then most turbos. When I was shopping for my current turbo, I found mildly/barely used gt28r and gt28rs turbos consistently sold for 600-750 dollars on ebay. The most you'd lose if you tested two new turbos is 100-200 bucks. I don't think that's much if you're looking for the perfect turbo. Plus, we all can see the results

Hell our 1.6's make better than 30 lb/min at 2 pr Those numbers are fine if you indicate heat soak and shitty tune but with a good tune and AIT's you should move alot more air and likewise move cooler air with the larger compressor as the effeciency, and overall compression per compressor revolution will be alot better.

Riskier, yes. All the auctions I have followed were the GT turbo is "like new" always sold for a decent amount. Now, buying a GT turbo with a million miles on it is just silly.

I went back and looked at the numbers again and they were a bit off. :gay:

Here are the new maps with better data. It looks like the T3 S60 is a definate no go, the GT2860RS is maxed out, and the small 2871R is almost maxed out as well.

The T3S60 runs out of steam at ~300 RWHP. The compressor on the 2871 is much larger and much more capable.

As a matter of fact the ghettocharger is not much different and REALLY damn near the XX76R compressor. The closest turbo to the ghettocharger is the GT3076R, which has an 84 trim 60mm turbine with a .63 A/R housing.

remember you can get the .64 A/R turbine housing option too. surprising how similar in size my 2876R compressor is to the ghetto.
