A map of the turbines efficiency, like the compressor map but for the turbine.

I never saw these before because you don't care about them. You are not using the turbine to do any work ... it's just a means to spin the compressor so a map is not required.

the map is not a code, its a graph the shows you at what point the heat starts to decrease efficiency of the turbine itself...

it lets you know what psi you can run, too much psi will only be pushing air that is way to hot to make any gains...

first of all, this post was about turbine maps, not tuning ones, so I wouldn't be talking about them.

Braineack, the turbine maps tell you little when compared to compressor maps in terms of what you are looking for. You mostly look at turbine diameter and A/R of exhaust housing in order to match the kind of response you want from a turbocharger ... and a lot of the time the turbine is matched to the compressor and most manufacturers don't give you much choice in terms of turbine. Notice that after a particular pressure ratio, the turbine will continue flowing the same amount. This was my point, no need to be a smartass about it.

The turbine map shows the mass flow curves and the turbine efficiency for various speeds.

The use of both maps (compressor and turbine) is pretty important. Where the compressor map determines the turbos speed/effficiency; the turbine's efficiency should be such that it is maximized in the compressors operating range.

Loki knows what he's talking about, so if he's looking for a turbine map, then there is a reason. Especially since a T3 has four A/Rs (.36, .48, .63, & .82) and (3) diameters sizes.

Didn't the T3 "50" from Garrett come in a single turbine/hotside configuration since it was mostly used in OEM applications such as the 40 and 45 in Saabs?

you can change anything with enough time, money, and ingenuity.

Well I dont think a map exists actually. garrett didntr start producing the turbine maps until they newer GT series turbos. But what we can do is make an eductaed guess.... w/ the .48 housing we know that the turbine starts to really get upset at or around 300whp. We can guess then that the flow is probably similar to the likes of a GT25 turbine clocking in at about 16-17lb/min. The T3 turbine is old and even the GT25 turbine is better designed...the T3 spools fast so it cant be any bigger than a GT28 series turbine and the GT28 turbine supports more power and it clocks in around 19-20lb/min. So its between 16 and 18 lb/min. Thats my best guess for ya.

thanks LEX that cleared up a lot for me. that is a pretty useful site cause i was also wondering how you read turbo maps, and the 103 tech tells you.
