Matt, can they remake your mani out of steel and coat the outside with a barrier coating? It's cheaper that way.

I suspect you cracked yours because you probably have more track time--ie more boost and more average heat in the mani per unit time.

as far as the ATI damper is concerned, apparently they reduce crank twist at high rpm.

but that's from their own site

for heat reasons, the mani will remain 321 stainless. There is going to be a higher temp heat coating on the whole thing when I get it back. I do suspect that 30 mins underboost creates some temps that others simply aren't subjecting thier cars to. They are also going to rebrace the turbo and wastegate to make sure there isn't any undo pressure on those parts of the system.

I saw that on thier site. I was curious for 3rd party opinions rather than those that are trying to sell it.

Thanks,
Matt

Re: ATI dampers - you'd benefit from reduced twisting and more accurate ignition timing if you are using a crank mounted trigger pulley with at least 12 teeth, like a honda trigger wheel, or a 60-2 wheel a la Electromotive. I'm not saying ATI's dampers indeed reduce timing innacuracy, I'm just saying if it did.

This would only be an issue obviously, for high boost.

There are some factory engines that get their timing off of the flywheel, such as Nissan and BMW's M motors from the 90s, presumably due to the damper's inaccuracies.

Hey Matt... what kind of boost, timing, A/F, and EGT's are you running?

I run around at the track at 10psi on a 2876 turbo(260ish whp) with the same manifold(at least i think we are talking about the same manifold) and haven't experienced any problems. I will be bumping it up to 15 psi(325ish whp) on the track soon, and I'll let you know what kind of heat we're generating. The longest sustained running I have done on my car at TWS was 30 minutes, but we had Kean's car out for a good 45 minutes at MSR. FWIW, I added a small support to the wastegate and a flextube about 2 feet off the downpipe. Kean's car is not running a flexpipe.
