i think proper orientation of the AFM is the least of his worries right now....he has a radiator in front of the intercooler....

Actually no, I re-oriented my AFM tonight because I didn't know that it was important. Might be part of the hesitation I felt when releasing the throttle. I will test drive tomorrow, in half a foot of snow lol Thanks Leafy for the info!

One aspect of the project does concern me:

Placing an intercooler behind the radiator like that basically turns it into an interheater. In other words, all that warm air flowing into it from the radiator is going to pre-heat it, and thereby reduce or even eliminate its ability to remove heat from the intake air under boost.

If you can relocate the intercooler to a spot in front of the radiator, that would improve its performance considerably. Failing that, if it were my car I'd be tempted to remove it entirely, albeit after instrumenting the "before" and "after" pipes with some fast thermocouples just to see if it's doing anything beneficial at all.
You the air from the turbo is probably 70c+ and the air passing through the raditor is probably 45*c so its going to do something.

Honestly, it will - be it minimally - and just marginally better than non intercooled... but it will. Considering the investment, and the grassroots/lemons application - I'd say it's better than nothing. I'd be more worried about the turbo waterlines lol

This threads pretty entertaining.

edit: oh I guess those are vacuum lines, nvm.

to keep it simple if not going more than 8psi, you don't need water to cool the turbo.
oil cooler would be enough

That's cool that you think all those things that you just rattled off are related.

I believe that this is the first time I've heard anyone claim a correlation between pressure ratio and the need for water-cooling of the CHRA assembly.

I can't quite see what these two things would have in common. In particular, I've heard it said by numerous sources (some of them reputable) that one of the most crucial functions of the water jacket occurs after the engine is shut off, with the combination of convective circulation and localized boiling of the coolant serving to draw heat away from the bearing assembly and prevent coking of the now-stagnant oil which remains there.

He has a habbit of saying really really wrong stuff in a "matter of fact" manner.

He needs to stop posting stupid stuff like that.

No I believe it runs, I'm excited to see how it performs. It's actually a little disappointing how I spent 3 times as much as you for a begi kit 3 months ago and still don't have all my parts. I should have gone diy

Alright, I'll record a better vid tomorrow, I am now heading to work. I hate to order parts for that reason, I am not really patient while building a project like that and the biggest time loss is always waiting for parts :(
What are you missing? Can you temporairely fit something yourself while waiting so you can enjoy your ride before? I guess you are waiting to complete it properly sonyou can tune it only once.

im missing the oil drain flange for the bottom of the turbo, couple of hoses and an air filter. The only thing holding me back is the drain flange because I cant find em local anywhere. If I buy a KIT, I expect it to have EVERYTHING I need to install at one time, that would be why I didn't do diy. Im curious to see how that manifold holds up lol

Yeah, there is always some stuff you gonna have to figure out yourself. I've never seen a "fully completed kit" but I've never bought one so I cant really tell. If you have access to a welding machine, the flange shouldn't be a problem.
On my side, I fixed the hesitation problem: The voodoo box was plugged on a nipple I installed on the piping in between the intercooler and the throttle body. That was wrong. I plugged it today on the same nipple than my boost gauge (on the manifold side so where there is also vaccum) and its works great! No more hesitation, it's a big difference. Since I don't have any blow off, I guess some extra full was delivered each time I release the throttle (because of the turbo that keeps spooling and the butterfly of the throttle body closed) so the voodoo box saw some boost.
It's keep improving

Tomorrow video!!
