Thread of win

Here's how I mounted mine, with the AC and power steering cooling line still intact.

Turbolators! And they are actually staggered?? more than 5 in total per bar?!?1one So awesome, it swallows light. I paid $61 bucks, or less than both shitty tube/fin ripoffs. I have no undertray (like a rebel ) and it seems it will fit the NA pretty easy.

Just in case anyone else cares, this is the cheap 27x5.5x2.5. The black ones don't show pictures of the guts, so I said **** it, I'll paint it black.

Far as I can tell, it would probably fit with the stock power steering cooler, dryer, and condenser, without messing with much of anything. I'm just eyeballing stuff so far though...

Where I mounted it there are actually already holes, so all you need to do is make some aluminum brackets.

Default How to Intercool

Hi,
I starting my accumulation of turbo parts for my 91. I've got about half a Flyin Miata I turbo kit. Do you think the 27x5.5x2.5 was big enough for your system? What would be the major difference between your intercooler and say a 31x12x3.25?

the major difference would be less airflow to the radiator and a lot of extra pointless aluminum on the front end

How do you feel about ebay BOV's? If I'm only making 7-8 lbs of pressure, I feel like one that comes with a intercooler kit would do the job. I'm to save as much money as possible on intercooler to spend on ECU related things.

Ebay BOV are usally knock offs that work half as well or don't seal correctly. (In my experience)

You should 'invest' in quality parts that will make your setup work rather than bandaid it with aids.

I picked up a real Greddy FV, no ragrets and keeps my MAF happy.

Forge makes some quality units for a decent price, but you gotta search for that specific unit that fits your needs. Bov vs recirc etc.

This $35 38mm vee port clone is working great for me. Not overly obnoxious, probably not much louder than a plumb back as short as my intake tube is. Adjustable, can even swap springs from the turbosmart if you want.

I ran an ebay 50mm for years, worked great. Going to rerun it on my new turbos build.

Updating this because things have changed.

Looks like $90 is the new norm. Just picked up at $60 one for a friend and it was ****.

Here is an example of what should be a good one.

Told you. No pictures of the inside on that intercooler and with it painted black you can't really tell how the fins are.

I got my 27x5x2.5 fron Autorefitting for $70 not long ago, they seem to be out now though. Probably should have gone with the slightly bigger one, it's cheaper and has good pictures of the fins.

$60 for 22x7x2.25 bar and plate with turbulators. Any reason not to use this one?

I am fairly sure it is the same one that came on my friend's miata, seems to work well.

Can't really call it a $60 intercooler when it costs $40 to ship it.

That description says bar and plate, but the crappy internal picture looks like a tube and fin. This is what I got, see how you can actually see the bar and plates.

Seems like an extended version of the small cxracing. Should be good for a street car.
