Unhappy I have Ping

Its not even 60 out and I am getting a fairly persistent ping at WOT. Before this I didn't know what it sounded like, but its so out of the ordinary that it is pretty unmistakable. A slight wiggle of the OPG needle that coincides exactly with the sound confirmed my suspicion.

When I got my turbo in it was a bit cooler than this and I vowed to get the IC done before it warmed up. Well now spring is coming on, I have barely started on the intercooler, and am looking at super long hours and no off days at work for the next month, and then we have the ping. Did I mention I have to drive the car to work?

I think my route problem here is too much boost (7 psi) for a car with no charge cooling, but I can't get it any lower with the actuator I have. I don't want to pull any more timing than I already am, and the mixture is too rich as is.

I am going to get some octane booster, or toluene, and I just PM'ed wideopen, that I need a DO kit asap. I figure I can install that in a lot less time than the IC. It is also possible that the gas I have was mislabeled. I am going to fill up at a different place next time.

The WI is a great idea, I was going to suggest it.

From what I've heard, I wouldnt bother with octane booster, toluene is a good choice for a temporary fix. I second the WI.

It seems like Toluene is unavailable around here, anyone know about using Xylene?

Thankfully it is going to be cool all week.

what's your timing at, pull it back 1 or 2 degrees. Or try the reserve-helper spring.

Base timing set to stock, pulling 6 @ 7psi with the emanage, I could try 8, but I think it would run badly at that point, or cooler plugs maybe. I am using stock plugs.

The reverse helper spring is a good idea.

I am not going to try and boost the fuel octane, after reading up on it, it just seems like a shady business.

Right now it is cold and all is good, so hopefully my WI kit will show up before it gets warm again, that way I could advance the timing and even crank up the boost
