Honestly with what you want, you need to just buy a FFS and be done with it. There is no way you are going to get 200ft/lbs of torque at 2k rpms in miata.

get a 1.8 vvt
throw on mini pooper twin scroll snail
this will cost a lot. but should meet your goal
you know the car won't be fast though right? it will fall on its face up top, and spin the lower gears way too easily. have you ever driven a chipped vw 1.8t? it will be exactly like that. which feels great daily driving. but sucks if you "actually" want to go fast, cause by the time you stop spinning you're out of power to get going.

VVT with a 2876 vs a 94 block with a T25:
with that said, y8s car doesn't need anymore low-end, he can easily break the tires loose. his car is competent and has plenty of grunt, he makes 150rwtq by around 3000rpm; you don't really need more lower.
while on the other hand, lar's car was a blast to drive, until about 4K where it lost all excitment. but I'd prefer the uber torque low-end thing if it was a DD.
I'm honestly really happy with the $150 chinacharger, it's so chepa and bolts right in, im unsure why you are so opposed. I mean it's worth a try at that cost and if it doesn't work out, then you're not left with any better option with your current manifold/dp combo.

I bet y8s would be way faster.
Lars' car would lurch ahead for a second then get its doors blown off.
I have personally tested this on my super laggy (or so you'd say) 3076 setup vs a t25 miata locally. It was no competition. He'd sneak away a car length til my setup wound up and then get his doors blown off
I do agree with the "daily driver" aspect you guys are talking about tho: if he cought me in high gear below 3k and I didn't downshift it would take a LONG time for me to catch up.
And his car was way more enjoyable to "drive quick in traffic"

this. y8s would have blow his car away in straight line accerlation through the gears.
i gladly traded off the top-end only of my t3 super 60 for the awesome mid-range performance of this chinacharger. It's really great all around and peopl who drive it/in it give nothign but postive feedback....even Min has said the same.
It doesn't have the low end of a lot of the 1.8L motors iv'e tuned (2560 on absurd flow) but it's nice to be able to get heavy on the throttle around corners and have full boost out of them and realyl keeping the momentum going. otherwise, with anymore low-end you really need to take care with throttle input.

I guess im lucky to be able to have driven a plethura of setups. The low torque setups are fun, but tricky. I quite enjoy my spool/output, athought I would'nt complain if I could bring it back another 200-400rpms to the left. but that would require a t25 and a new manifold and downpipe and oil fittings, so there's no way.

I really think his goals are set too high. You guys are right, without lots more money spent, I dont see it being feasible. Dude you have to remember the "N" in the BMW engines stands for something like "new generation" and have had a ridiculous amount of coin spent in engineering them. They have VVT, a turbo, and sometimes valvetronic (variable lift).
I'm definitely interested in this thread myself, as my plans are keeping mine a DD as well. I'd love a 2560R, twin scroll, etc. but I'm trying to keep the power down, as well as the power curve
