Ruh roh. Chad, you've got me worried about this test pipe now.

Not that I really care. My car is quickly descending the slippery slope towards race car :P

I mean you heard the video. Its really not what i consider raspy, the turbo gets rid of most of what would be rasp. I just want it a little more quiet.

Well, I had a chance to listen to all of them tonight. Matt's wins for the sound I am going for in my opinion. I'll see what the craptastic welded Flowmaster that I have sounds like but the magnaflow sounds like what I am going for. Thanks for all of the clips guys.

YESSSSSS. so just to clarify:

cat + resonator + giant muffler, all straight thru. well not the cat.

MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust

it is a very snug fit, but you may have an easier time with 2.5 pipe.

note in the first pic there's a lot of space between the tie down and the muffler. consequently it is close to the other side tie down. some day I'll move it all over for more clearance, but it doesn't make noise now so... I wont.

I'm running what y8s is running. The biggest Magnaflow there is. Only mine's angled at a 45* to reduce bends. Hell, I thought I stole that idea from y8s, but obviously not.

Stein-flowmasters suck for turbo applications. Suck on many levels.

It should be noted that FlowMaster mufflers are less than optimal for a turbocharged vehicle. Internally, they are chambered and baffled, which is an effective mechanism for sound reduction, but does create some resistance to flow.

Relative to their supercharged and N/A cousins, turbocharged vehicles tend to require less sound reduction in the exhaust system, owing to the fact that the turbine itself is a somewhat effective muffler. The preference is generally for straight-through mufflers. Think of a glasspack, except with a much larger cavity surrounding the perforated core. My own is a 2.5" Enthuza with the newer-style muffler, and along with a 2.5" ceramic cat and no other devices in the path, the car is surprisingly quiet. At WOT it makes some noise, however at idle and light cruise it is no louder than the factory setup on a newer Mustang or Corvette. Despite this, the muffler easily passes the golf ball test. (Meaning that you can drop a golf ball into one end of the muffler, and it'll roll straight out the other end.)

3" Enthuza single, w/cat.
i need a better vid. Its loud, but the best sounds ******* awesome. I've had a few people comment on how cool it sounded. I don't recommend it for a daily, but a big-time-yes for a toy car.

are you sure? my old (and loud, and like stein's pics) exhaust:

pat, I have no idea how you fit a 22 inch muffler diagonally under there, but it's inspired work.

Yeah, it wasn't easy making that muffler fit. As you can see, the inlet is under that factory brace near the diff. The muffler is physically as far forward as possible right now at that angle. ~1/4" clearance between it and the diff. case. Are all v-bands the same? IE-do the ebay specials work ok? When I redo the muffler I'd like to vband that so I can go back to the old one if it sucks.

I bought the setup just for the stainless FM midpipe, resonator and high flow cat. I only paid $100 so I planned on replacing the muffer. Just checked that link. Crap. Gotta pay to play. Another $175 for a friggin muffler.

Magnaflow Performance | Discount Performance Auto Parts | Performance Exhaust Systems | Flowmaster Performance Mufflers
Buy from these people. Call them and ask for better pricing.
Way cheaper.

PerformancePedller has them cheaper. They're the cheapest you'll find magnaflow products. I got mine from them. Call them and tell them to beat there own pricing. They did it for me.

EDIT: uh yeah, what he said.

Question: just how restrictive is the stock muffler? I've got the exhaust off as I'm turboing the car. I know you guys say the turbo will make it quieter, but straight open is too loud for me. So it's either buy a $30 summit turbo muffler and install that or put the stock muffler back on. I mean seriously, is the stock muffler that restrictive on a turbo car at ~250whp? I'm afraid even a 3" turbo muffler will still be too loud, hence the stock muffler idea. Just wondering if it would cost me 20whp or 50.

junk will cost a lot of efficency.

I was labeled the "silent phantom" on the track cause I would pass people and they couldn't hear a damn thing form my car. That was with a baffled Borla muffler. I gained nearly 50rwhp when i threw on the 3" exhaust and did that mild headwork I've posted pictures of. I'm sure your setup right now would be very livable. You should wait till it's running with teh turbo before you do anything.

"Turbo" mufflers suck for an efficient turbo setup.
