Default My TD05 NB project

After getting sick of driving an insanely slow car I decided to bring some boost into my life. My original plan was to buy a JRSC but after doing some research I decided to go with a snail.

I spent a lot of time working on eclipses and talons since I used to own one and I have always been a fan of the 16g turbo. The only problem with that is td05 manifold/downpipe availability for the NB. I found an OBX downpipe for the NA which fits the 16g outlet and I have been building my kit around that. Heres the list.

OBX manifold (ebay) for "94-97" I had to go with this one because I need a top mount setup for the downpipe to work.

TD05 turbo

OBX "NA" downpipe. Hopefully this will fit.

I have two sets of Injectors. 7MGE 315cc and some blue 330cc injectors a friend gave me. The blue ones will probably end up sitting in my garage forever.

Here's my flange that I have to weld to the manifold.

I have two j pipes that come off the turbo with different angles just in case.

Mishimoto 24x11x3 intercooler. (measurements may be wrong)

Egay intercooler kit

RB midpipe and Greddy TI-c that I ordered before I knew I was going boost.

Innovate LC-1

Cheapo boost gauge with map sensor.

Right now the plan is to weld the flange to the manifold so I can get an Idea of how much room I'm working with. Once I have an Idea of that, I will measure and order some oil lines. When the lines come in I am going to order a oil pressure gauge and sensor. From there I can tee the feed line, drill and tap the return and cap both while I save money for a tune. For Management I'm using a DIY from Braineack.

My goal is to have the car boosted by March. I still need to get my hands on a clutch and some spark plugs too. I'm hoping to get 8psi to start, maybe more if the setup can handle it.

If anyone has any advice or anything, please chime in. I'm open to criticism.

What happened to the S4 tubular knock off?

The S4 knock off would have put my turbo upside down and I would have had to weld a custom downpipe. The OBX unit puts the turbo right where I need it, and it looks a bit stronger.

Might work for a week or two before it cracks, snaps, falls off, ramps your car in to the air and flips you upside down. Invest in a rollbar.

The OBX or the S4 knock off?

Roll bar is definitely in the plans.

Cheap manifolds in general are a waste of time and money. Do it once, do it right.

If someone made a nice cast manifold for the NB with a td05 flange, I'd be all over it. Trust me.

I was just saying because low mounts are baller I think Jake has the same manifold that you bought and that **** looks fragile.

Why don't you contact some of the site builders? or check out the FS section.

I looked everywhere for a 1.8 TD05 flanged manifold. Finally I just gave up and decided to weld a flange to a stainless manifold.

After some reading I found out no matter how much I brace the S4 knock off, it will always be a piece of crap. Then I came across the OBX manifold and realized it gave better placement and I can still weld it. Right now I'm ok with the OBX because if it does break after a month, that's still a month I have to build this thing.

I too was a former DSMer until i realized that driving around my moms miata while my dsm was broken was more fun then driving the dsm while it ran. I too had an evo 3 16g made a touch over 350awhp on 24psi, extremely capable turbo for sure.

So I have this RB midpipe for the NB and an OBX downpipe for the NA and for some reason I thought they would bolt together without any issues...WRONG! Despite all of my efforts to keep the welding to a minimum, I now have to cut and weld flanges to both pieces. Sigh.Do not cut corners when it comes to boost. It always comes back to bite you in the ***.

Here is a pic of the madness. Ignore the header and ebay manifold.

Cut both pieces where appropriate, connect with an exhaust band clamp. I've got one on my car and it works great, does not leak, and comes apart in seconds when necessary.
