Oil from compressor outlet
Hey guys,
I know this question has probably been asked as many times as "how much power can I make" but I searched and couldn't find much.
I fired up my engine for the first time since putting on the turbo. I don't have the IC pipe connected to the throttle body yet. I also have a breather on my valve cover so oil isn't getting into the intake. Is it normal to have oil spitting out my compressor outlet? It's not much, but it seems to me that it will probably be more than a quart between oil changes. Also bear in mind that I only have like 1km on it since installing it - yes, I took it around the block to check for oil/coolant leaks without the IC pipes connected. The turbo is said to have been rebuilt with only about 6k miles on it.
There is no oil burning out the exhaust. I've had that in my last Saab and the turbo had major shaft play. The one I have on my miata right now (SR20 T25) has very little to no shaft play.

Yeah, I'll keep an eye on it, I just wasn't expecting to see that much, but we'll see. I was going to use the T25 as a little step into the turbo world anyway. I was hoping to upgrade to a GTIR T28 later in the year or if this one fails.

I didn't have that much on my sr20 T25 either. I figured whats little of it was coming from my PCV since I didn't have a breather on it. What sized oil pressure/feed line to the turbo are you using? Though, I'm pretty sure it has a built in restrictor so it wouldn't matter as much.

I don't know the spec of the feed line, but I'm pretty sure the nut is 5/16 if that can indicate anything. I believe it may be a 1/8" hole
I filled my oil level to just above the F line on the dipstick. Does too much oil impede the flow of the drain line causing it to backup and shoot through?
I'm getting blue oil smoke out the exhaust if I'm standing still and holding the revs steady at about 2-3k.

My drain is pretty much on par with what Fm and Begi spec, 1/4" lower at most. Gonna keep an eye on it. Makes a little bit of smoke at 1k-2.5k rpm when sitting playing with the throttle, but not nearly as much as when I first started it up.

So I am still getting blue smoke out the back even after fitting the DIY rivet restrictor. It is usually during mid RPM heel-toe throttle blips, and leaves a good stream sometimes while cruising around lightly. Could this be a bad PCV valve, or would that only reveal itself under boost? It does not seem to smoke while under boost. My engine was perfectly fine before putting the turbo on. Is the turbo seal kaput?

It's the stock one from 2001. Should I be using the '89 323GTX valve? That's the consensus I get after reading all the other burning oil threads.
The driver's side nipple has breather filter on it, which stinks like a motha. I'm gonna be tapping the turbo inlet pipe to route that portion back.

Yeah, I just went for a an hour drive and think it only happens AFTER I come out of boost. On light cruising after getting over 100kpa I get a nice puff or stream. Is the stock NB one completely useless in the first place?
Is it ok if I disconnect the hose going to the intake manifold off the PCV temporarily?
What's the part number of the PCV from Finish Line?

While I'm waiting for my new PCV to get here, I decided to disconnect the hose back to the intake manifold and plug that up and just vent both sides of the PCV. I was doing this for a few days with no issues and no more oil smoke. Today I was down shifting in mid rpm, and when I blipped the throttle, I noticed puffs of blue smoke out the exhaust. What else can this be from? My engine was perfectly normal before I installed the turbo a few weeks ago. I'm going to do a compression test tomorrow to make sure. I also have the DIY rivet restrictor in my SR20 T25 oil line.
My WG actuator is hooked up after the TB (which I will fix tomorrow). Will this have any effect of trying to create pressure against the TB while in vacuum and excess oil going through the turbo in anyway?
Any thoughts?

Do blown turbos smoke all the time? I'm starting to worry that my turbo isn't blown, but maybe either a problem with my oil drain or maybe plugged up oil ports in the turbo.
I get smoking when under heavy vacuum for an extended time such as slowing down on the highway off ramp and then giving a little gas afterward. I get blue smoke, and no white smoke, so it's not leaking out the turbine side.

Yeah, I've done a compression test, have not done a leak down test. When I had the turbo off to rebuild it, I was able to drive around and had no issues with smoke.
I bought a good T28, but last night I had a thought in my sleep thinking my issue could be with the oil drain line or a clogged center section of my old T25 - I didn't fully clean the center section like I should have done.
What's the best way to test the flow of my drain line - hook it up to a funnel and see? It's is exiting the turbo vertically like it should. Have there been known issues of the oil pan fitting going in too far and being impeded by the oil pickup tube? I'm using a 3/8 NPT threaded end in the pan and barbed end to the hose.
