Manifold options..... input/opinions wanted.
Well, its going to be time for me to start looking at manifolds for the T3 setup im building. My only thing is, i cannot decide which manifold i want to go with. Since im going to be using the ATP internal w/g with 3"v-band, im concerned about the DP fitting up.
I've narrowed my choices to well.....the only 3 manifolds that are offered for a T3 on a 1.8L haha. BEGI cast iron , ETD Racing and JGS. I like the idea of the JGS having the turbo toward the front of the log. I know the BEGI unit will never give me trouble and the ETD one is just badass.
Just looking for what people think/know about these mani's...

Who is making the downpipe?
Bell will fab you a downpipe if you send them your turbine housing and wg adapter.
The forward place of the JGS is nice. The ETD probably flows the best out of all of them but it will most likely be the hardest to fab a downpipe for because of the higher turbo placement. It might require a semi "s" curve to get around the shelf.

i getting the DP made at a local shop that fabs turbo kits for BMW's, i've known the guy for quite sometime and i know his work is good.
Hmmm....... anyone have a clue as to about what a Bell fabbed DP would cost?

BEGi offers a T3 DP, it's like $400 + ship.
I have a brand slam new old style T25 BEGi DP for 1.8 99+. You'd need to cut the T25 flange off and add the T3 flange, which should be pretty easy for your fab guy. Interested? I'm off 85 @ exit 120. I'll also be in L'ville Saturday at the mini tech day.

it could easily.
I'm not saying it's bad, however it surely won't flow as good as the shorty. Even BEGi design is better since it put the flange dead center for equal flow and has the "pulse director" thing.

The ETD will flow the best, but if you are using an internal gate you obviously don't care about that really. No offense but most internally gated setups are pretty **** poor regarding flow unless you are very creative/careful in separating the wastegate flow from the turbine flow, and even then disrupting flow at the turbine entrance is a bad thing. Still the ETD should spool quickest.
The BEGi while nice when complemented with the BEGi downpipe is good until you get to a larger compressor where cutting the cars frame rail becomes and issue. Flow is not superior to the ETD, but it does not have any problems with longevity because of the heavy cast design. It's a solid performer.
The JGS has the most downpipe friendly location, moving the turbo up and forward really allows for a big down pipe to be more easily put in place as there is plenty of room to work around and is similar to the placement of the CARB legal twin cat Miata setup that BEGi built for the 99 CARB certification.
I don't think you can go wrong but your decision will partially be based on the size of compressor housing and the placement of the turbo. Since you will be internally gated, flow is really a secondary consideration, but still I like the ETD the best. I own a welder though and know that if it cracked I could reweld it quickly and easily if I wanted to. My second choice would be the BEGi unit, although for a daily driver it's my first choice, I like cast iron for it's stability and reliability.
Finally there is one manifold you may not have considered. I would consider asking BEGi to modify an S4 manifold with a T3 flange. This is an awesome long tube design that puts the turbo nice and low which allows an almost straight shot out downpipe.

I have seen the BEGI S4, but for the price, i dunno. I'm trying to stay under the cost of what i can sell my s/c for. As for the w/g application/comment, i know about the exhaust gases 'slamming' against each other and im going to be using the ATP internal w/g+ v-band piece. It looks to have a real nice smooth merge for the w/g gases and the turbine gases to meet.
Dunno if you remember, but the turbo im going with is a .60/.63 T3TO4E.
