problem with axle in high hp miata
CEO you are askin questions about stuff that most people haven't come close to doing, sooo if i were you i would go talk to that guy that has the 600hp drag miata. thats probably where you'll find your answers. good luck with your project.
Email Rob at Flipside. He runs a full RX7 Turbo II rear diff, axles and hubs. His email is exit5@comcast.net
Yeah, when there are two companies out there making rear sub-frames/diff. mounting assemblies and custom cv axles specifically for mounting Ford 7.5" and 8.8" rear-ends to the Miata...I really don't see the point in mounting the 8" RX-7 Turbo II rear-end to the Miata. Unless you have more free time than free money, and someone gives you a free TII rear-end...then, maybe.
motoworx on m.net says he's cracking the 7" diff case before breaking any other Miata parts. He's running a nissan trans with the 7" rear and half shafts. The diff is modified with a pinion bushing/mount rather than using the ppf.
I wonder if it's his mount then? If it were mounted to a PPF, then the tranny, driveshaft, and diff would all move together. They kind of "twist" or rotate just a bit. But since the mounting points are isolated, the items don't move in unison, causing additional stress then failure?

I installed a TII diff and starting to get ready to look into a stronger trans for my turbo miata. The TII diff install is pretty time consuming, but only cost me $200. However I machined the hubs down with help of friends at no cost. The swap to TII diff would not be that hard due to fact that can purchase hubs from miataroadster. Then you only have to get driveshaft fabbed and mount for diff. However other rearends may be better options for gearing but that depends on what you want to use your car for.
I broke over 2 Dozen axles in my old Miata drag racing it at 450hp! I eventually had Driveshaft Shop build me a custom set of Axles for the car. I sold them to some dude in Vegas and never heard from him again.
******* tool.
