Quick turbo questions
I finally received my turbo
First question, on the inlet from the intake, the surrounding cylinder is covered with grease/filth. Is this normal? i mean, that means all that **** was going though the turbo and into the engine no?
2nd question, it has shaft play
It does not move left or right but moves a very very little amount in and out. about 1mm or under. how long would this turbo last?
BTW T28 vs T25

The oil is fine, clean it up.
Shaft play side to side, as long as it is not hitting the housings is ok and normal.
Axial(in-out) shaft play is not good. I recommend a rebuild. You can do it yourself with a kit from gpopshop.com or wherever you feel like buying one.
Turbo spin over 100,000 rpm, you want them to be as tight as possible. Side to side shaft play is normal with journal bearing turbos only because the shaft sits on a layer of oil.

Ballbearing turbos sure have practically no shaft play. When they do it means they're spent. There are much tighter tollerances for play in BB turbos, i'm not sure how much though.
The downpipe for my HKS manifold cost around $80 in materials.

in/out is fine.....its side/side that's bad. just push hard on the wheels and rotate it, if it makes contact with anything and any position you push/turn it, it needs a rebuild.
I guess it looks usable. It appears that there at no rebuild kits for ball bearing turbos
Does anyone know where i can get the fittings that go on the inlet and the intake outlet so i can connect a silicon hose to it?

There are no rebuilds for BB turbos. The only method of rebuild is disassembling your turbo and sending the CHRA to Garret for replacement. It's like $250-350 i think.
Thank you for all the answers!
