Granted that is a KLZE not a KLDE, but I would hope they sound the same. Any reason why you want the DE over the bigger ZE?

I have limited research into it, but I understand the DE has lower compression (better for big boost?) and is cheaper as they are found in USDM cars. The ZE is a JDM import.

If that thing is rockin stock internals thats really amazing.
If your set on making big numbers id go ford, if you dont want 500+hp then stick with the bp. Eagle rods cp pistons set is like 800$ throw in boundry gears and your shortblock should be good to go for at least 350lb/ft.
One of my previous cars was an 89 fox with a 408, stock 95 lightning block with eagle cast stroker kit and vic jr top end pack it made 565whp on the motor, 812 and over 950 lbs/ft on a 300 shot. It made it through about 8 bottles before the tranny (3550) which is rated at about 400lb/ft gave out. If you do a ford motor use a t56 or a 3550, t5s break and tkos feel like your trying to karate chop concrete blocks to get it in gear. I would say regardless of power output turbo cars are alot more fun. I would take a 300hp turbo 4cyl over a 350hp v8 any day.

I was looking at the Eagle/Scat forged bottom end packages, this stuff is so cheap! I'm thinking small cube 302 with a turbo, a victor jr intake converted to EFI, etc. I think that'd be well over 500hp though. Might not need the boost if I just use rpm to get to 500. But a turbo would mean I wouldn't have to build a difficult pair of headers on the V8 swap ;)

any pictures of that intake manifold?

Who's, mine or the KL in the video?

That 323 belongs to Leo from PR...

Its actually a KL-DE
interprep cams and springs
ze heads
wiseco pistons
forged rods
hayabusa throttles
electromotive stand alone tec 3 fuel and spark
short runner headers with custom down pipes open exhaust
external oil pump
heads are stock

Currently he's making 253whp, and revving to 10k rpm
His most recent time is 11.4 @ 118mph w/ a 1.68 60'

Heres a pic of the itb setup:

turbotim yours on the miata.
I did the same thing way you did on your turbo to intercooling piping.
But that intake manifold looks custom.

Ah ok. I've had all sorts of different IC pipe routing, size & location but for the past few years it's all been 2.5" stainless thru both fenders. To do this without a kink in the Ic to TB pipe I made a new plenum for the factory intake manifold. Used a band saw to cut off the original plenum then welded up a new one. Royal PITA for the benefit but that's typical for me.

think the design of the intake manifold with the 2.5" nice running piping help with those numbers?

Those same throttles are going on my BMW. The things are just so goddamn adaptable!

You could achieve over 400 with stock shortblock and stock exhaust manifolds with a crossover pipe and a decent sized single, iv seen 500hp hit with stock shortblock, gt40p heads, explorer intake, e cam, stock manifolds with a crossover pipe and a single hx40 that cost 100$ at the local diesel junkyard. Made just over 500whp at 14psi. about 12psi would be my safe limit and i would expect about 470whp.

I still think a 350-400hp bp would be sooo much more fun.

Weird manifold on that car too. Has some sort of accordion looking gizmo between the 2 sets of runners. No idea wtf that does.

yep the speed3 has a "unique" mani. the accordion gizmo is a flex length between the halves of the manifold. IIRC swaps to a tubular unit are common when going big turbo or getting into the mid 300's whp.

3" turboback REALLY brings the boxer sound out.

those v6 itb's are sexy

I'm starting to agree with you. BP would be the easiest route. I need to start looking for a VVT head and 6 speed.

Then build my dream miata turbo setup:
built 1.9
vvt head
10:1 pistons
rods/etc
anything from 2876 to 3582 depending on how soon you want the power and how much of it you want.

Make panties drop
Profit

Sounds like my car....minus the e85
