Default Trimming temp sensor

Just went to put my reroute in and discovered the temp sensor is about 20 rch's too long, can I trim it and have it still work properly? I think yes but want other opinions. I am wondering what the max amount I could trim off it is...don't want to have to buy a new one. I also have thought about getting a copper o ring but I would have to get a 1/4" thick one and then I would be worried about sealing.

I am talking about the brass/copper/whatever piece, it interferes with the thermostat spring.

To answer my question, you can take about 1/8" off then you hit the sensor tip which is metal wrapped with plastic...I went all out last night and fucked **** up. Never work when you are angry.

No problem, 16 bucks later and a few washers and I am good to go.
